I call his parent either by their first names or Mum and Dad. Still working out which feels most comfortable for me. They couldn't care less.

He calls my Dad by his first name and my Mom either by her first name or Mrs. J. (Just the initial, not the full last name. Most of my friends call my Mom that as well.)

I call his parents by their first names, and he does the same thing for mine. Both sets of parents always call themselves Mom and Dad when talking, signing emails or cards etc, no matter which one of us is being addressed. If his parents asked me to call them Mom and Dad, I probably would. I call his grandma (and great-grandma) Grandma though, I think it feels less awkward since most of us grow up with two sets of grandparents anyway.

Sujeet calls my parents mom and dad, which they love.

I call Sujeet's parents Ma and Papa (which is what he calls them so I call them that). Although in Indian culture some things are formal, which is not me at all, but when I first address my inlaws I have to add a respectful greeting with it. Like Ma Pranam, and Papa Pranam. No one told me I have to, but after hearing Sujeet do it I thought I better do it too.

Hi Everyone,

Good luck on your immigration journeys. What an interesting message thread, indeed. In answer to the question on this message thread, my answer would be:

My husband and I call his parents:

Mom (the only person who really derserves this name)

Dad (deceased)

My husband and I call my disowned ex-parents:

Witchy-Poo (or some yucky variation of their first name)

Warlock (or some yucky variation of their first name)

Ant

This was a question that came up...and I was interested to know what ya'll did...

I call his parents by thier first names...per they insistance.

He calls my parents mr and mrs ____. My parents are WAY more formal

I call them by their first names. My ex-in laws insisted I call them Mom and Dad...even though they were horrible shrews that never tried to be a family...so it was all a farce and I really hated it. Not to mention I already have a mom & dad.

Especially now that I met D's parents in my mid-20s, it was like I was more grown up and on the same level with them. So there's not really that heirarchy of having to call them Mom & Dad.

I call his mom, by her first name and I don't really call his dad anything because I don't talk to him very much..... he is kind of a quiet guy... but if I do I would call him by his first name

I can't really remember what my hubby calls my parents but I am pretty sure it is their first names...

I call Rob’s Mom by her first name. And he calls my Mom – Mami (which is what I call her) and Papi (for my Dad), I guess he got that from hearing me on the phone. They are utterly thrilled to be called something in Spanish…LOL.

I call him mom and dad Mother & Father (Okasan & Otosan). It's not really natural (or really polite- culturally)to call them by their first names. I do call his Grandma and Grandpa by the cute names they use for them though. :) Yuibi calls my parents by their first names (and you can tell he feels REALLY awkward about it Haha)
