Hey guys , I just got off the phone with uscis . Told them I wanted to know if there was a reason why my EAD hadn't been approved . The lady told me EAD takes up to 90 days to process but since I filed it with I-485 , me getting an RFE for I-485 , stops the processing for the EAD too . And once I do respond the RFE, processing will start as day one again.

This means I can stop worrying something went wrong and stop obsessively checking my EAD

Milton you are right ... before they approved to expedite my EAD, I was told to reply to thw RFE I got on my I-485 before anything can be done on the EAD.

Also, they stated that if it's an initial evidence they requested for, then the waiting period will begin all over from day 1 again except if it's additional evidence that was requested for.

So far, no update on my i-485 apart from response to RFE received.

Oh wow , I thought it didn't affect because so many people had said their EAD had been approved while having RFE for I-485

Question about SSN.

Once I get my EAD in mail. (hopefully by end of next week) Can I go to the SS office the same day and apply or is it advised to wait until system are updated? Also is my passport and EAD card sufficient? I need to get the slip stating I applied before my start date. (tentative Sept 28)

We just did that this morning. After a long wait all we needed to present was the EAD card and the Mexican passport since I don't have a ID or drivers license yet. The representative couldn't verify me he said so he gave me an official letter with a reference number on it that stated they have to verify my information and if they do they will send me the card in up to four weeks.

I recall what was said specifically is that having a RFI that was sufficiently replied to in a timely manner (few days) didn't seem to have a big impact on when the EAD was approved.

USCIS is clear that RFI reset or hold the 90 day clock; however, given most of us are getting EADs at 60 days this isn't of much consequences at present.

Thanks! Some treads were saying you had to wait for State ID/DL and the documents on the SSA website are not clear.

I hope I can work with just that letter and the EAD

Don't rush to the SSA as soon as your EAD arrives, they will not be able to verify you on the SAVE database and will have to file a G-845 to USCIS, this will cause a wait time upto 4 weeks.

What i did was gave them about 5 days to make sure SAVE was updated with my current status, went in and i was verified on the spot. Got my SS card in the mail a little over a week after that.
