I received my oath letter today! I am scheduled for 11/19/2015! Wahoooooo!!

I finally received my oath letter today! So happy. It's for November 13 11/13/2015. My status online change throughout the entire process, however it did not change for my mother who also applied at the same time as me. She received her oath letter as well for 11/20/15. She has a trip plan for December 17th, do you guys think she can Apply to get her passport in the normal processing time or should she apply for the expedited one. We are worried she won't get it before her trip. I'll appreciate any feedback.

Congrats Luisa611. Still waiting for my oath letter. I suggest your mother expedite her passport application because I think normal processing is between 4-6 weeks. I think she can also apply at a passport agency and get it on the same day becasue she has imminent travel plans. Suggest you call the State Dept or check out their website for details.

This is what I would do...
On the morning of November 21th, call the passport Agency. Using the automated phone system, schedule an appointment for December 4th. This takes 5 minutes and is very easy. Write down the number that they give you. This number is important. To use the passport agency, travel must be within 2 weeks, and December 4th is the first day that you qualify. Show up an hour before it opens that day (even if your appointment is in the afternoon) and have all your papers in order. (Application, pictures, naturalization certificate, second ID, copy front/back of second ID, copy of naturalization certificate, print out of travel to DR). Your mother must be with you, of course. Once they accept your papers, you will be given a date 3-4 days later when you can pick up the passport by hand. Or if you wish they can mail it to you. Not including any overnight delivery fees, going to the office is no more expensive that doing the typical expedite (extra $60). I had my passport in hand the day after my oath, so I have experience on this topic.

Thank you for all the suggestions!! I was reading on the US passport official website that all new applicants must make an appointment to get their passport. So regardless if my mother wants to get it expedited, She will still need to go in person.. How true is this?

Means that all NEW passport applications must be FILED at a passport acceptance facility. These are places designated by the Dept of State to ACCEPT passport applications only and includes your local post office. A passport agency is very different. They actually PRODUCE the passport. Typically on the same day of application. But they have very strict rules about when you can apply at a passport agency. Hope that helps.

I wonder if there is any way to find out if there is going to be an oath ceremony on the day of my interview. On the USCIS website it says that Charlotte office officiates same day ceremonies; but how do I find out which day of the week?

I'm not sure about Charlotte, but according to the officer that interviewed me, they only have N400 interviews once a month in Denver and they almost always have oath ceremonies that same day later in the afternoon. My interview was at 10:45, and the oath ceremony was at 1:30. There were 65 of us in total, and I recognized a lot of those people from the waiting room that morning.

Your first passport application must always be performed before an acceptance agent. Typically, you can do this at the local post office. They review your documents, and you must swear that you are legally entitled to receive a passport. They then take the documents (including your naturalization certificate) and mail it to be processed. This is different than going to the passport agency (see my previous post on that). The agency is in lower Manhattan and they will produce the passport in that office if you go that route. They will only service your request if you have confirmed travel in 2 weeks. Given your situation, I would not mess with the post office.
