The "normal" way is to apply at the post office. This takes 4-6 weeks. You can also apply "expidited" at the post office. This take 2-3 weeks.

But, if you have travel plans within 2 weeks, you can hand deliver your application at a local passport agency. This takes less than 1 week. Most of them will give you the passport same day if travel is within 2 days. I will naturalize on Wednesday, and have an appointment Thursday at the Chicago Passport Agency. Will be on a flight to Canada on Friday evening.

May be! Coz after our oath in philly, the center director congratulated all of us and told that we can just walk in to the local philly passport agency and can acquire our passport the same day within any of the next 30 days. It seems they have an agreement with the agency just for the newly naturalized citizens even though if one doesn't have any immediate travel plans....But I'm not sure if it is the same case in every city!

If they dont mention this themselves at oath, you can always inquire about that right there after the ceremony. I suggest you to take passport pics with you as they give you the passport application with your oath packet and if you are given the option you can go, apply and receive your passport the same day!

OK, thank you SCUBE, I'll ask the officials on the spot on that day I'm taking oath.

Quick update. Just received text and email notifications that my status was updated to "in line for oath ceremony". It has been 6 days since my interview at the Wash DC field office in Fairfax, VA. Now I am hoping that they can find me an open slot in November.

Also, just wanted to add that in the email notification that I received from USCIS it said that " you can expect to be scheduled for an oath ceremony within 45 days of receiving your recommended approval." Just an FYI for anyone who gets a form N-652 with a recommendation for approval. As always, wishing everyone positive outcomes.

hello everyone,

Congratulations who got their oath date and Good Luck to the waiting people.

My resident since date is 03/19/2013 on my conditional green card. I recently got my 10 year GC as well.

I am planning to go out of country in January for 1 month or so. I was reading, and found out that I can send application 90 days early, Which would be '2015-12-20'.

my concern is, If I file on time, I'll get finger print in next few days, which I might miss because I won't be in the country.

can I file few days before so that I can take care of finger print if they send it before? or wait till I come back (which is beginning of February)?

Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

hello everyone,

I don't think you can - they will send your application back since it's not within the 90 window.

Coolmind1414, you'd be better off filing for your N-400 after your trip so you avoid missing your bio appointment. BUT also keep in mind that there is a requirement that you have lived for atleast 3 months in the state or USCIS district where you claim residence at the time of filing. So if you're coming back in the beginning of Feb, you should wait until you have lived in your state for three months (around beginning of May).

I am resident of CA, and I've been living here since 3 years. I'm not moving to new state. does it still matter?

Just want to share my interview experience today :)

My interview scheduled was at 12:45pm, came in 12:00 noon exact, and the front desk lady told me they were running behind so I was called in like 01:20pm. 35 minutes delay. My IO was pleasant and very nice old lady. We started with US Civics History question, she asked me the following questions:

1) What is freedom of religion?

2) How many U.S. Senators are there?

3) When must all men register for the Selective Service?

4) When was the Constitution written?

5) What ocean is on the East Coast of the United States?

6) Name one state that borders Mexico.

She asked me to read "Who is on the Dollar Bill?"; and wrote "Washington is on the Dollar Bill."

And went thru my N400 application, and informed her I got cited from traffic officer back 2011 & 2014 and I included that information (court receipt) when I mailed my N400 Packet.

Everything went well. I'm happy that I'm almost done with this journey!

I wonder if there is any way to find out if there is going to be an oath ceremony on the day of my interview. On the USCIS website it says that Charlotte office officiates same day ceremonies; but how do I find out which day of the week?
