A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

I stay away from all the SBD pre packaged meals

Those pre-packaged meals rip me up. Between all the sodium and preservatives, I always will end up with a belly ache if I eat them.

A friend of mine did the LA Weight loss and looks great! She's kept the weight off for over a year too. :star:

there was a huge story about LA Weight Loss on 20/20 the other night. their counselors aren't even trained on how to lose weight. they are trained on how to sell more bars, vitamins, etc to the clients. they are trained to make them cry to guilt them into buying more. it was pretty sick to watch. and its not even based out of LA. lol great your friend lost a lot from them though..did she spend a lot on all the extras?

An odd coincidence to have a thread about diets just before some VJ'ers will be starting one of a sort (Lent "give-ups").

hmmm i been thinking about doing the jenny craing. I want to lose 10 or 15 pounds. Has any one ever done used that service?

My mom has been on it but kind of half-arsing it for about six months and she looks fabulous! She eats popcorn that she oil pops every day and a little extra fruit and the occasional snack here and there, but she has still lost a lot of weight.

I did Jenny Craig for a month with her last year and the food is SO DELICIOUS. Amazing.

I agree with Caladan.

I started modeling when I was 16, and the first and only thing it ever taught me was to cut out the pop. I replaced pop with water, and to this day (7 years later), I drink water religiously. Only other things I drink frequently are iced tea, and sometimes orange juice (only NOT from concentrate, and because it's great for my low blood sugar).

As far as eating, my mom has always made sure we take everything in moderation, and try to eat plenty of different types of food.

Each dinner should have a little of all the food groups (where possible). Meat, veggies, carbs, all in moderate portions.

All of us have guilty pleasures (mine is chocolate) that are hard to break, but sometimes, just when I want to reach for chocolate, I grab a peach instead.

My mom is going to be 48 this year and is frequently mistaken for much younger. She is 5'6", about 110 lbs., and very healthy.

Exercise is key, too. Find something, anything that you like and go to it! My mom has been going to the gym for 20 years. I can't do that, but I do love tennis, and the treadmill isn't so bad. :)

Diets are a joke. You can't just cut out one thing, and expect it to work magic.

I (L) food.

I'm a big fan of sparkpeople.com, it offers most of the same services as weight watchers or ediets, but it's free! And I like that it has a really balanced healthy attitude, and encourages looking at it as a new healthy lifestyle rather than just a diet.

I'm a spark person  It's the best health program I've every participated in :thumbs: And it's free!

I don't "diet." I eat healthy, control my portions and exercise.

One can't just loose all the fat around their belly, unless they have it sucked out. A good diet with exercise will reduce your overall fat. If you tend to carry a lot of fat in your stomach area, it may reduce more from there, but that's based on your body type, not the kind of diet you do.

what is the difference between weight watchers and jenny craig?

Weight Watchers doesn't give you the food. All in all it's better because it teaches you how to make your own choices and it's a lot more flexible. Jenny Craig is just easier because you only eat their food.

OP: Are you part of that Herbalife pyramid scheme? If so, isn't that TOS violation to advertise on here? Just wondering...

to me, WW is a lifestyle...it's something you can do your whole life. It's all about making the right choices - and when you do pick something more fattening or whatever, eating in moderation.

Jenny craig is not, for me, doable in real life. I mean in the weight loss phase it's great as long as you never eat out much...but in terms of LONG TERM practicality, it's just not...for me anyway

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Some of my friends have had luck with Weight Watchers, because of the positive peer pressure thing and because it basically retrains you to eat with the point system so you get used to the idea of healthy portion sizes.

When I want to lose weight first thing I cut the worse enemies: carbs and alcohol.

Carbs - Even fruits, vegetables and cereal bars have carbs, so it's not like I'm cutting it 100%, I cut the bad ones like bread, pasta, pizza.

Alcohol - empty calories, usually increases your appetite, I find it impossible to match weight loss and alcohol.

I drink lots of tea, eat lots of vegetables, fruits and buy lots of lowfat/light snacks like cereal bars under 100 calories, yogurt under 70 calories. Then I usually eat every 2 hours (fruit or cereal bars or yogurt) to avoid getting too hungry and have only 1 real meal a day with protein(either tuna, fish, chicken or lean steak) and vegetables and avoid eatting after 7pm.

It's part of my diet already drink only fat free milk, diet coke and I don't use oil to cook anything.

If I need to lose weight fast I go to the gym 6 times a week, usually 30 min of cardio and weight lifting.

In order for me not to attack the fridge because I'm not eatting some fat food I love(pizza, ice cream, etc) I allow myself to eat some ice cream, sometimes lean pockets and sometimes even pasta on weekends.
