Co-Sponsor

Hi everyone,

I am in prompt need of everything you can share about co-sponsorship. I found out today that I cannot use the SSI that comes into our household as income. Last year I have switched jobs and went from a LOW paying teaching position to one that pays considerably more, but I have only received 10 of the 26 bi-weekly payperiods for this new job. So between the LOW job 1/06 to 7/06 and the higher paying job 8/06 to present I was short on my 125% requirement. I am going to ask my parents to co-sponsor us but need to know what they need to do in order to do so.

HELP!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

My parents = 4, themselves and 2 adopted late in life children

Me= 5, Myself and 4 dependent children

My fiancee = 2, her daughtewr and her self

My neighbors= 3, parents one child

Help me figure out how the dependents are figured and the scenario that would best meet my needs.

My main question is does a co-sponsor have to make enough to cover everybody or just themselves and the immigrants?

Hi Azcactus,

Good luck on your immigration journey. In answer to your question (based on my own experience where I had to find a co-sponsor too) the co-sponsor had to cover:

a ) Themselves (The Co-Sponsor)

b ) Any other dependents in their household

c ) The immigrant

As well, you too as the USC (The Sponsor) have to fill out a separate sponsor form as the main sponsor too.

The sponsor form is the 134 form, right?

Hi Azcactus,

In answer to your question, it can be both the I-134 form or the I-864 form, depending on the type of Visa that you applied for. I guess in your case, it would be the I-134, since you are doing the K1 Visa route? Check out both forms on the USCIS website though, just to be sure.
