Oh the irony...

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/texas-abbott-balks-question-interracial-marriage

Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott, who is vigorously defending Texas’ same-sex marriage ban in court, says he’s unsure whether he would have defended a similar prohibition on interracial marriage had he been in office 50 years ago.
“Right now, if there was a ban on interracial marriage, that’s already been ruled unconstitutional,” Abbott told the San Antonio Express-News editorial board. ”And all I can do is deal with the issues that are before me … The job of an attorney general is to represent and defend in court the laws of their client, which is the state Legislature, unless and until a court strikes it down.”

They won't loose their job, Not after the Attorney General issued his statement. Remember this is Texas and we play by our own set of rules.

As far as wasting Tax Payers money, They are the people that are elected into office by the people and for the people. I sure Texas has lots of extra funds. Texas is luring companies into Texas from other states right and left, It is pretty amazing to see what they have done.

God Bless Texas

What an idiot! What does he think happened Friday? Or have they not told him yet? Or does he simply not understand it?

That TX AG is a doofus! LOL

So let me get this right. He thinks bans on interracial marriage are unconstitutional (because the SCOTUS declared so) and yet same-sex marriage is unconstitutional even though SCOTUS decided it's constitutional? He really thinks he gets to pick which decisions by the court he can follow or not follow?

The below was accurate before the last election but isn't now. Abbott is now the Governor.

If the individual participant in question would stop espousing the idea that his life would be improved by adding more women and that homosexuals should be campaigning for his right to marry as many women as he wants--only women he holds to a very racist ideal--then he wouldn't get discussed. Maybe the problem is that specific participant and not, in fact, the rest of us. How is his racism 'family friendly?' Just because he's idealizing one specific ethnic group doesn't make it not racist and racism cannot possibly be family friendly.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

May 6, 2015: Interview at Montréal APPROVED!

May 11, 2015: Visa in hand! One year less one day from NOA1.

I am talking about me, I would convert in heartbeat if I could legally have like 3 or 4 wives at one time.....

You are free anytime to convert to Islam if you wish to realize your fantasy of 3 or 4 wives. You just can't live in the United States where polygyny is illegal. May I suggest you move to Iraq or Syria?

Same-sex marriage is a constitutional right in the US. Don't like it? You're free to leave.

I hear the most freedoms - complete freedom from any government interference, in fact - exists in Somalia. Libertarian paradise.

So are huge tracts of Iraq and Syria. Folks who have a government oppression complex should move to these places where there is an absence of government.

Well good to know that these government free paradise zones are rapidly expanding. It's the right time to be a libertarian.

Pastor who claims he would burn himself if same-sex marriage is approved by Supreme Court walks back his comments, won't burn himself after all. Just another grandstanding liar.

I'll take my constitutional interpretation from SCOTUS, Volokh, Posner and Lithwick, not from some dude on the internet who hasn't even attended one semester of Jim Bob's School of Legal Larnin', thanks.

Speaking of Posner, this is kind of awesome: http://abovethelaw.com/2015/06/reverse-benchslap-of-the-day-judge-posner-smacks-chief-justice-roberts/

This quote from Posner:

[G]ratuitous interference in other people’s lives is bigotry. The fact that it is often religiously motivated does not make it less so. The United States is not a theocracy, and religious disapproval of harmless practices is not a proper basis for prohibiting such practices, especially if the practices are highly valued by their practitioners. Gay couples and the children (mostly straight) that they adopt (or that one of them may have given birth to and the other adopts) derive substantial benefits, both economic and psychological, from marriage. Efforts to deny them those benefits by forbidding same-sex marriage confer no offsetting social benefits….

THIS. Posner is no bleeding heart. Enunciating that marriage is a right extended to both gay and straight couples by the Constitution is actually a conservative point of view. Marriage is a conservative institution that helps to shore up families and property rights.
