Can you really just schedule once the status changes to AP from Ready?

Hi guys,

I've read somewhere (k1 fiance visa blog) that you can actually schedule interview yourself once the status hits AP. Is that true?

Also, do they send out any kind of e-mail or paper to you in Russia telling you to schedule? I pretty much know the package one needs for the interview by heart at this point. :) Input much appreciated!

01.14.2015 - met online in an RPG chatroom
02.27.2015 - met in person
04.20.2015 - I-129F mailed
04.21.2015 - I-129F received by the Lockbox as per USPS site
04.24.2015 - NOA-1 electronic copy received: both SMS (text) and e-mail
04.30.2015 - NOA-1 paper version received
06.01.2015 - NOA-2 e-mail. SQUEE! =)
06.05.2015 - NOA-2 paper version.
06.12.2015 - NVC Received, Case # Assigned (not yet visible on CEAC)
06.17.2015 - NVC processing completed, now visible on CEAC with status "Ready"
06.24.2015 - CEAC status "Administrative Processing" (for Russia: received by the Embassy, can schedule the interview).
06.26.2015 - Crossed the t's and dotted the i's, this time for real. Scheduled the interview!
07.20.2015 - Medical. Piece of cake!
07.22.2015 - Interview. 2 hours worth of waiting and 5 minutes worth of talking to the consul, "your visa is approved". Yaaay!
10.09.2015 - POE in Boston, MA. Hooray!! Welcome, my love.

05.12.2016 - Interview scheduled for 06.15.2016 (wow, that really took 6 months from filing...)

06.15.2016 - Interview. Approved! (but not at the interview, got notification about 4 hours later)

Yes, it says on the Moscow embassy site how to schedule the interview. They should email you telling you that they have received everything and that they're ready for you to schedule the interview.

Doesn't the DS-160 need to be completed?

2/14/2015 Sent I-129f package to TX lockbox. Happy Valentine's Day!

2/26/2015 NOA1 received, dated 2/19/2015

3/24/15 NOA2 received, dated 3/19/15

early April(approximate): at NVC ..delay?

4/08/15 Case created. Got case #,

5/16/15 NVC status: 'In Transit'

5/18/15 visa status: 'Ready' for interview

7/3/15 setup medical and visa interview appointments for

7/22/15 and 7/27/15 via Kyiv's 'call center'

7/27/15 visas approved!! ...but pending medical tests for 6 year-old

9/21/15 visa package received, and medical resolved!

Apparently you can schedule the interview first and complete DS-160 after (but still before the interview). There is an entry for DS-160 number in your traveldocs profile, but it's not mandatory.

I scheduled first because the spaces were kind of running out in Moscow embassy. However, DS-160 is only supposed to take 20 min max (then it times out), so it should be a pretty easy one, I'm just waiting for my fiance to be awake at the same time as myself to do it together. :) Stupid time difference; can't wait for that to be over! :)

For Kyiv, I think DS-160 confirmation number is a required field together with the payment confirmation number, not sure about Moscow. In any case, yes you should fill out DS-160 and print out the confirmation page to bring with you to the interview.
