Hello,

Thank you in advance for any assistance. I have two questions. :)

I applied for my passport immediately following my naturalization ceremony. Today is the 35th day and I'm becoming impatient since I need to schedule international travel. I did not expedite. Also, they did not use the name I wanted on my naturalization certificate. I wanted my maiden name but they used what's on my birth certificate. All my official documents like driver's license, social security, and health insurance are listed under my maiden. I asked them to change it but they refused so I went ahead and applied for the passport using my maiden.

Has anyone used a different name other than what's on their naturalization certificate (like a maiden name) and received their passport?

Does passportstatus.state.gov website give status updates? And if so, did you get an update when they mailed your passport?

Thanks so much!

I'm confused... your maiden name isn't the name on your birth certificate?

Do you mean you wanted the naturalization certificate in your married name?

The passport has to be issued in the name on your naturalization certificate unless you also submitted a name change document or a marriage or divorce certificate which can be used to change your name.

Also, non-expedited processing is 4-6 weeks so assuming that there's no problem with the name mismatch, you still have a some time to go before you'd be out of the normal processing time.
