So we're finally getting our butts in gear and gathering our documents for removing conditions in about 3 weeks or so. However, with some of our documents, we're getting things changed to be in both our names this month when we will be submitting our application next month. For example, we've sat down and have finally finished our wills, which we will get witnessed and signed and notarized on Tuesday. Will it look bad that we are getting some key things in both our names now in the "eleventh hour" so to speak ??

Does it look bad that I've never changed my surname?

:)

PS: in my opinion, it matters not--my situation or yours.

Nah, I'm with Meauxna. I don't think it'll matter much. Hubby and I didn't even have wills when we applied to lift conditions (don't now yet either  )

I think it's a matter of "as long as you've done it" not as to when.

thank you both for your input. :) This all just crossed my mind while we started looking over possible documents to include with our packet and realized how many things (wills, cars, house) we still had to put my name on to make them "joint".

Uh oh. You and I better be nag-buddies and get on each others' cases then. Can't have my gigundous estate going to the State now, can we?

Cassie, even documents with one or the other person's name on them, that indicate the same address, have powerful evidence value.

We have been married for 2 3/4 years now and only just got our wills done last weekend. We have been discussing it for a while and tried to get them done several times but kept getting bogged down. We still have a year to go before we can apply to remove conditions, but I think if you have them, even at a later date, it is still good evidence of a valid relationship.

Yes i would agree with as long as you have the same address you should be fine.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

No will is just as good as a will. If there's no will, the spouse gets everything (I don't know about in all states, but safe to say in most states), so wills don't add anything (like pictures and electric bills which can be taken of anything or put in the name of anyone). Changing names doesn't mean anything either. We didn't change my wife's name just so nothing with immigration would screw up in the meantime. Once we get the 10 year, maybe we'll do something then, but we didn't want to take any chances with all those careerbuilder monkeys at USCIS. Financial entanglements without restrictions, beneficiary statements and bank accounts, joint tax returns and home and car ownership and all that other capitalist stuff is the best evidence (because really it all comes down to if you share the money as being the best evidence, because if you are making sure to keep it all separate or make sure he/she can't or won't get any of it, what does that say?)...good luck!
