Contracted by US company

Hey Guys,

I own and run a small social media/marketing business in australia. I generally do some freelance work however was looking to be contracted full time. So a US non for profit, medi/news outlet has hired me to work for them. Currently I am not being paid, due to the international stuff etc. (going through process now). They want me to move on-site in Michigan and I would also like to do that as there would be a higher pay than working off-site and I get to have more responsibility.

which visa would I go for? How would I go about it? What is the process?

It is something they do not you.

Usual visa would be a H1b but their Lawyers would advise them depending on the precise details, there may be other options.

Let us know what they propose.

As mentioned, your employer needs to organise and pay for this; be aware that the process/ visa costs $6000+, which may be cost prohibitive for a NPO.

There are journalism specific visas which may work better than a H1B, but your employer's lawyer will know best.

I guess first step would be to contact the company lawyer to figure out what classification of visa they would petition you for.
