Social security card and name change.

Hello everyone we have not been on here in a little while because clara finally making it here and the wedding which we just had this past saturday and was amazing to finally be married after such a long process.

Now we have the marriage certificate that was signed and all and being mailed right now to the office, we used her name minus one of last names because she has both of her parents last names. We were told to choose only one so we did so what do we do now as far as the social security card goes and to make sure later that she can have my last name. We are applying for here social security card now but what do we put for the name? The same we put for the marriage licence?

You may have a hard time applying for a SS number now with her new name,

Until she has the EAD or Green card (Which can be applied for with the new married name) it is very possible that she will be denied the name change as it wont match what they have on file and they will request a goverment issued ID with the new name.

This is what happened to me and countless others.

We always suggest applying in the maiden name before marriage and waiting till EAD to change the last name.

She can try applying now and just not tell them she is married and apply in maiden name and then change it at a later date.
