Our story of a surprise home delivery

Well I had to chime in here,

My wife & I have a 22 month old daughter and recently gave birth to a beautiful Baby Boy

Aiden

His birth is quite a story and I have meant to share it with other expectant couples here.

My son was born at Home!

Jan. 3rd 2007

6:00 am I woke up running a little late for work, My wife pregnant 7 days away from her due date.

I woke up and she mentioned ( for lack of better words) stool signs , that we should go in tho the Hospital and see how far along she is. So I told her to call my parents who only live 4 miles away to pick up our daughter.

My wife and I started getting ready we ha dno idea that she was about to go in labor, no previous signs, no Contractions.

I woke up my daughter then went back into our bedroom an dmy wife started bending down with 1st signs of contractions I laid her on our bed and thought ok, we need to get ready a little quicker than normal, still neither of us were in emergency mode.

I told my wife to stay there while I got our daughter ready.

No sooner than I headed down the Hallway I noticed her up walking around, I got ready to tell her to lay back down and then full on contractions hit,

She hunched down in our hallway in heavy contractions moaning, and obviosuly in severe pain.

My daughter at this point was up and seeing her mommy on the floor crying , scared her so what does she do.. She goes up to my wife and starts Pounding on my wife's head???? then runs over to me.

I am trying to comfort my wife get her in a better position, calm my daughter. Chaos!!

I picked up my daughter called 911, the operator started asking me a lot of ?'s I interupted the Operator and told her I have to take care of my wife, I left my phone off the hook and moved my wife down the hall to our family room, elevated her legs and picke dup the phone again, the operator was telling we to get towells, & water and just reading off a list, I interupted again and said " I can't talk I see a Head!!! :o

I put the phione down and saw my son crowning, i though out loud " Oh my God! Oh My God he is here. the whole time my daughter is backe dup into a corner crying and so scared,

My son's head merged from my wife the amniotic fluid sac and not even been broke ( her water was still intact) I broke her water and removed the sac away from his head, his head completely merged at this point My Father walks in the door (expecting to just pick up our daughter and meet us later at the hospital, he had no idea what he was about to walk in on.

Shocked he enters the room and notices me delivering his grandson, he asks "what can I do" I say " pick up the Phone" My step -mother walks in abou the same time and like a guardian angel she rescues our daughter and takes her out of th eroom and outside :innocent: Whew.. my sons head si coming out my father on the phone w/ 911 is repeating instructions about elevating my wifes legss ect.. and 911 is not caught up with real time of what is going down.

My sons head is out he lets out the most beautiful cry my wife pushes twice and hi continues to emerge. First thing I ntoice is his cord around the back of his neck so i take my right hand trace it back to his belly and realise it isn't compeltely around his neck so i pick it up and drop it over his head letting it fall beneath him.

He comes ot sideways Head, shoulder, Knees, & toes crying i keep his mouth open clear his mouth and I continue holding him in my arsm, then i am thinking "NOW WHAT" :help: I am holding him cord attached and thinking what next. then

then after what seemed like forever probably only 1-2 minutes..Out of no where 3 sets of Gloved hands appear in my field of vision :innocent: Again Angels!! Keep in mind I was only tuned into my wife and baby totaally oblivious to what exactly had taken place around me, I had forgotten about the 911 operator, did not even think anything but the baby emerging from my wife who was screaming in pain.

these "angelic Gloved hands of "paramedics clamped the cord and then grasped my hand placed a pair of scissors in my hand and told me "Good Job .. now finish"

I cut the my sons cord , the Paramedic ' angels.. took him out of my arms and asked for a towell. like a robot i wnet and got them a towell to wrap him in, and then as if nothing had just happened i started pacing walking around the house as if i wa slost, then out of the corner of my eye I saw my wife, ( unclothed from the waist down :o )I quickly grabbed a sheet and drapped it over her then trun around and say a paramedic holding a new born baby. BAMM it just hit me what had happened. My son wa sjust born. I deleivered him??:o:huh:Welcome to our Family & World Baby Aiden

The paramedics took my wife and Son to the Hospital and everything turned out fine. they were discharged as normal and recovered well.

It all happened so quickly. The great news is he was perfectly healthy

7lbs and 18 inches long

Our 22 month old daughter loves him and is so happy and gentle towards him, we are finally able to rest a bit as Aiden is sleeping longer at night.

Anyway I wanted to share this story. As a father it was an amazing experince.

i have to admit this second prganancy my wife wnet through I wa snot as connected with, as I was when she was pregnanat with our daughter, I was busier more tired, and didn't seems as excited, However i beleived Powers beyond my comprhension brought me closer to my son and allowed the events to happen the way they did to bring me closer to my son.

It was the most amazing, scary, exciting and fullfilling event i have ever experienced in my life.

Good luck to all expecting parents. Hold those babies close and best wishes for Happy healthy pregnanacies& deliveraries.

Warmly,

Addie, Ako, Airilei & Aiden!!!

Savanphil… CONGRATULATIONS!!! Its’ wonderful news! I know I will be scared also whenever I get pregnant, even if you’re trying it has to be scary! I guess like Tracy said, it’s supposed to be scary… (at first)… and please don’t worry about the things that can go wrong. I guess it’s also inevitable, but you have to think positive, because your little baby can feel all those emotions, and you don’t want him/her to be scared… right? So positive thoughts!! Feed happiness into that lil one growing inside you!

On the other hand, just wanted to let you girls know, that it’s a no-go for me this month. I am a bit saddened, but not overly upset. Looking at the positive side, I guess I don’t have to worry about that Bailey’s I had last weekend…:)

Ana

Awww, I hope it happens for you soon (L) Thank you for the possitive thoughts.

Addie!

What an amazing story, and what beautiful babies!!! Congratulations, on your new baby son, and for doing such a wonderful job delivering the baby. I wont show this story to my husband, he might pass out!...hehehe. I think he’s pretty scared of the delivering part of having a baby, even though he’s just going to be an expectator.

Congratulations again!

Congrats Savanphil!! :star:

:crying:

I think my husband and I miscalculated a bit and missed our opportunity this month. I have always been irregular, so it may be more difficult for us to really know when is the "right" time....

We'll just try again next month

If you have problems with being irregular then using ovulation predictors might help you a lot. They can tell you when you are close to ovulating. I have been using Answer brand from walmart(well, the cheapest ones) and they have helped. Most women do not ovulate on day 14(or exact middle of cycle) as it is stereotyped, some ovulate earlier and some many days later. I for instance ovulate usually on day 13 or 14, and some others I know of ovulate on day 18 or 19. So if you aren't sure when it happens, ovulation tests can help you find out, as well as fertility charting which is free (compared to the O tests).

Now I'm not usually one to get all giddy over everything and cheesy(yeah right, who am I kidding :hehe: ) but I like these little things called blinkies that I found through babycenter.com and I love using them now. But I just use them on babycenter.com because I feel silly using them on VJ. lol. But I thought I'd put some here incase anyone wants to save them to use them anytime. On babycenter and other baby sites they use the term "baby dust" all the time, so I'll give you all some baby dust too. :P

It's me one more time... :innocent:

I thought I'd also post this lesson, which is info from fertilityfriend that may be useful to some people.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All about Ovulation

Lesson Objectives:

*Know what ovulation is and understand the significance of ovulation for fertility charting

Major Points in this Lesson:

* Ovulation is the release of a mature egg (ovum) from the ovarian follicle.

* The lifespan of the egg after ovulation is just 12-24 hours, possibly as little as six hours.

* Conception occurs when the ovum is fertilized by the male’s sperm during this timeframe.

* Intercourse prior to ovulation may result in conception because sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract

for a few days before ovulation.

* Detecting and pinpointing the date of ovulation are primary concerns when charting your fertility.

* Ovulation can be detected by charting your fertility signs because the hormone progesterone, which is only released

after ovulation, causes your resting temperature to rise and stay elevated throughout the luteal phase.

* Detecting ovulation allows you to see the following: if intercourse was well-timed for conception; if you can stop

having baby-making intercourse; the length of your luteal phase; when to expect your period or a positive

pregnancy test result.

Fertility charting, as you now know, is largely concerned with identifying ovulation and then using this information to make other predictions and calculations about your cycle. Once you know when (and if) you ovulated, you can decide to take a break from baby-making intercourse, you can tell if intercourse was well timed for conception and you can get the most reliable due date calculation. You can also tell when you can either reliably take a pregnancy test or expect your period.

So, what exactly is ovulation?

Ovulation is the release of a mature egg (ovum) from the ovarian follicle. Each menstrual cycle, several ovarian follicles begin to mature and develop under the influence of pituitary hormones. Usually only one follicle develops fully. While the other follicles recede, this dominant follicle produces an egg which will be released and which can be fertilized. The growing follicle secretes increasing amounts of the hormone estrogen. Following peak estrogen production, there is a surge of luteinizing hormone (LH). The LH surge triggers the release of the mature egg from its follicle. This is ovulation.

After Ovulation

Once ovulated, the egg is picked up by one of the fallopian tubes and begins to travel towards the uterus in the fallopian tube. This is where fertilization, if it is to happen, takes place. The follicle that released the egg becomes known as the corpus luteum after ovulation and begins to secrete the heat inducing hormone, progesterone.

The lifespan of the egg after ovulation is just 12-24 hours, maybe even less. Fertilization must take place within this timeframe. After this timeframe, the egg begins to degenerate and is no longer capable of being fertilized. This seems like a very short window of time for conception to take place. However, sperm deposited prior to ovulation can survive in the female reproductive tract for a few days, so the few days before ovulation takes place are also considered fertile days.

Ovulation and the Cycle Phases

Ovulation is the event that defines the phases of the menstrual cycle. The phase before ovulation, when the ovarian follicles are developing, is called the follicular phase. The phase after ovulation is called the luteal phase. The length of the follicular phase may vary but the luteal phase length is generally constant from cycle to cycle for the same woman, lasting 10-16 days. When cycles are irregular, it is usually because ovulation occurred earlier or later than usual. Knowing when ovulation occurred allows you to see if intercourse was well-timed for conception and lets you determine your luteal phase length. Knowing your luteal phase length tells you when to expect your period or a positive pregnancy test result.

When does Ovulation take place?

Ovulation takes place, on average, about two weeks before your period, though it can vary from 10-16 days before the onset of menstruation depending on the length of your luteal phase. During an “average” 28 day cycle, ovulation is usually expected to take place between cycle days 13-15. Based on this guideline, many women are taught to expect ovulation around day 14 of their menstrual cycle. Many women, however, do not have average cycles and even those who usually do may see irregularities from time to time.

A typical menstrual cycle may be anywhere from 21 to 35 days according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Some women even notice cycles that are shorter or longer than this. Ovulation, then, may occur much earlier or later than typical guidelines suggest. For example, ovulation may occur on cycle day 23 during a cycle that is 35 days long for a woman with a 12 day luteal phase while ovulation may occur on cycle day 10 for a woman with a 24 day cycle and a 14 day luteal phase length. This variation among women and from cycle to cycle means that there is really no simple “one-size-fits-all” mathematical formula to calculate your ovulation date without observing your fertility signs. However, it is possible to learn how to identify your own ovulation date and fertile signs by examining your fertility signals.

Detecting Ovulation

Your ovulation date and your time of peak fertility can be detected by charting your fertility signs. This is because our bodies produce signals that can alert us that ovulation is approaching and tell us when ovulation has passed. Fertility signs that indicate that estrogen levels are high and ovulation is approaching (and fertility is high) include observing increasingly stretchy and “egg white” cervical fluid and observing a high, soft and open cervix. Commercial devices such as ovulation prediction kits (OPKs) and fertility monitors can also tell us that ovulation is approaching by measuring the presence of estrogen or luteinizing hormone (LH) in urine. Charting your basal body temperature (BBT) allows you to pinpoint the day of ovulation and tells you when ovulation has passed because progesterone raises the basal body temperature after ovulation.

Oh my goodness Addie - that is an incredible story! My brother was bron at home as well, but that was back in 1984. That was planned though! I was sitting in a nurse's arms and they held my brother out to me and said "here's you're brother!" but he was all icky and slimy and funny looking so I shied away into the nurse's busom 'cus I thought he was yukky :P I was only just two at the time.

My father helped my mother give birth to my sister in 1987 - and my brother and I were on the floor at the time playing with a little Tomy radio. We weren't expecting it - she was in the "getting ready" room. Well I look up and she's taking her pantyhose (Tights, in England) off and then she says "Kevin - she is coming!". Well my mother's standing up and my sister's head is crowning. My father and me, my brother and mother are the only ones in the room! So my mother kind of bends over a bit, then my sister comes out *floomph*, onto the bed and starts rolling off the side, at which point my father intercepts her, pops her in a better position as my mother comes down to retrieve her, goes to the wall and punches a load of buttons and when he hears a voice on the intercom he just says "The baby - she's here!" only stuttering a lot lol!

Well three seconds later the staff come in through the door with all sorts of medical machinery...the rest is history :)

On a different note, I went to the optometrist today for the second time in four weeks because I never did get used to my prescription he gave me in January, which was 0.25 less than before. I couldn't really see road signs before they were about 20 ft away from the car - bad news if you're driving! So he examines me and he says "God...how am I gonna be able to get away with putting you up three clicks from before?!". I say "Well I can't be more than a -4.0?" and he says "Actually you're a -4.25!" and I'm like "no way!".

So he fits me with the new contacts and he says "you're not pregnant are you?" I laugh and say "well it's funny you should say that - I don't know!" and he says "Well, because pregnancy can cause this kind of a sudden change in myopia - just thought you shoudl know."

Well either my optometrist is more intuitive than my husband, or he has a medical point, or it's just coincidence. Funny though :):P:D

Hi , I'm just curious. What are your ages of those of you TTC.?

I had trouble trying to conceive my second child child -took 3 years then 6 months of clomid. My first came along unexpectedly because I was given clomid to restart my periods after not having any for four years !! Got pregnant the first month.

If I decide to have more children-depending on my situation here I think I'm probably too old that's why I was curious about ages.

I have used this before. you look for ferning with the saliva however. For me it wasnt good enough. Alot of things can change the results. I bought the clear blue easy fertility monitor on ebay new pretty cheap. I started out with the saliva thing, moved to ovulation sticks, and then to the monitor which I adore!!!!!

Thanks for this thread, JayJay! My husband and I are trying to conceive, and the whole thing can be a little overwhelming. I am using an ovulation predictor called Ovulite. It tests patterns in your saliva. Anyone heard of this or tried it? It's really very interesting!!

I'm praying to conceive this year, Lord willing....

I'll ship all of you my son's packet of fee charts from West Virginia University and see how you feel about babies after that....... :P

Good point
