Well…

I’m mighty glad that the TTC-VJ Babies thread is open. I discovered it yesterday (while at work – like now) but I was too busy to reply or even read too much about it. As I said in another thread, we’ve been trying since December. I mean, I got off the pills in December, and the doctor (and everyone else in the world) said that it’d take like 3 months before my system clears out all the yucky stuff, and my body gets ready to get preggers.

Like Stina, I have been charting my periods, and monitoring the ovulation signs, and all that happy #######. Using my chart I’ve been able to predict my ovulation dates, and by knowing the ovulation signs we have been ‘nailing the nail’ (is that how it was phrased?) on the right days. I have not bought the ovulation prediction kit yet, neither I’ve bought the basal thermometer. I did buy prenatal vitamins, and these other chaste berry pills that someone recommended to me, and then someone else said that it wasn’t too good. I am taking the prenatal, but they make me feel kinda weird, stomach wise.

As far as family and friends asking, well, I don’t think anyone has asked me here in the US, people are way too conscious of intruding in other people’s life, but during our visit to Venezuela it was kinda funny, friends, family, even strangers asked when we were going to get pregnant! As far as how I feel about having a baby, I do want it, with all my heart. I am kinda scared about how my body will feel while being pregnant. I’m scared of feeling sick, of not being able to work (which requires traveling), financially? Like Jay-Jay, I think this is as ready as we’re going to be, we also bought a house, and even though we’re updating here and there, I believe that we’ll be able to manage the expenses a baby will bring. Then, I’m also concerned about who will take care of the baby when I go back to work, I am hoping my Mom will come and help me out. But I know she can’t stay here for over 6 months, so I’ll have to figure it out.

I am also in the middle of that mind-playing games period after the ovulation, and I don’t know if it is because I am more aware of my body, I have been feeling weird, moody, acutely aware of what I am eating, of risks of falling (damn ice!), and Saturday night when we went out and my brother in law ordered me a Bailey’s, I felt like I was doing something really bad by having ONE drink. Crazy uh?

Well, I am happy this thread was created, I’ll be hanging out here, for support, for cheers and for knowledge.

Good journey ladies, now on the TTC journey!

Good journey ladies, now on the TTC journey!

It really all depends on your body, in regards to waiting for the horomones to clear out of your system. I have friends who have gotten pregnant while taking the pill, and others who have gotten pregnant right after stopping them. I think the docs tell us wait at least three months so that we aren't expecting to get preggers right away.

I applaud you for doing all the charting - still waiting on TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR FERTILITY to arrive in the mail from amazon.com :blink: but I started prenatals at the end of January (switched over from taking multivitamins).

My concern is also childcare. But I guess once I get preggers we'll cross that bridge.

That's true. I am VERY lucky that my parents live in town and are MORE than willing to help. So...I mean sTewart and I both have to work. That's not a question...esp. because stewart will be in school ful time soon - so just being able to drop the baby off at mom and dad's isn't a problem.

I am not the one as concerned about finance...it's him...he says otherwise we'd be trying now...but our plan is next December (After our 2 year anniversay) which I'm totally ok with...that way I get my two years of selfish Stewart time :) Where I don't have to share him with anyone!!

I love this thread!

Ana, you mentioned the prenatal vitamins made your stomach feel strange. It could be the iron in them. I can't take vitamins with any iron in them, it makes me stomach very upset. When I was pregnant the first time, I just took regular vitamins. You may be able to get prenatal vitamins without iron, I'm not sure.

As far as what to do with the baby once it comes, Javier wants me to quit work. I don't think there is any way in the world we could do that. Plus, I like my job pretty good now. I have great benefits and retirement. If I quit, I'll lose all that stuff. I guess we'll just have to see if we actually have kids and then work it out from there.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

CarolineM: If I were you I would wait also, I mean, can you imagine trying to juggle study duty with baby duty? It has to be hard. And there’s nothing wrong with having selfish time with your hubby. For me, aside from the fact that I just love children in general and can’t wait to have my own, it’s the age thing. I turned 36 in November, so I think it’s time for me to take the plunge and get that baby.

Jonesie: Have the prenatals made your stomach queasy? (I cant believe I’m going to say this but there’s no other way to say it: its actually gassy). I can burp like I’ve drank a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi!, and I just feel bloated. Charting is not so difficult, with the help of the websites, you just plug in the first day of your period, and it does all this calculations letting you know when it’s most likely for you to ovulate. Then, just paying attention to certain details during your cycle will confirm if the dates are accurate or not (itty-gritty details, that I don’t know if it’s appropriate to add in an open forum). Like others have said, the OPK works pretty fine too. I am half tempted to go and get it, but also, I think I’m obsessing a tad too much. I mean, my grandma and my Mom just needed to see their hubbies to get preggo why wouldn’t that happen to me? And I agree also, people are different, women on my mother’s side seem to be very fertile (sniff a man’s underwear and the magical bump appears), so if it’s not a positive this time, I’ll keep on charting, and trying of course.

But please, keep your fingers crossed for me!!

I’ll have to check when I get home about the iron. I know that calcium KILLS my stomach, and to be honest, I didn’t check for calcium in these vitamins. They are supposed to be all from natural sources (veggies, oils, etc). So I don’t know… I have been taking less than the recommended dosis because of my stomach. Definitely checking it when I get home today.

Yay!!! Love this thread :)

We are planning on trying to conceive sometime this summer. The hubby is 43 and very motivated to have a baby RIGHT NOW!!!! So much so, that he suggested I go off the pill the day we wed. Well, convinced him that throwing my hormones out of whack (I am very sensitive to that) right before our church wedding in April is NOT a good idea. I am still new to this whole baby-making concept and have only just been reading up on all the things I need to do.

Hopefully, this thread will get pinned (HINT HINT) so we can keep coming back to it for a long time :)

Question: Could my prenatal vitamin be making me feel sick?

Answer: It could be. Some pregnant women do have trouble tolerating certain prenatal supplements, particularly those that contain a lot of iron. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all pregnant women take a daily supplement containing 30 milligrams (mg) of iron, but some prenatal vitamins contain more than that. So check the label — if your vitamin contains more than 30 mg of iron you can switch to one with 30mg, as long as you're not anemic. Ask your healthcare provider to recommend one.

You can also try taking your prenatal vitamin with food or just before bed. Or break the tablet in half and take it in divided doses. If none of these measures help, ask your provider whether you can switch to a prenatal vitamin without iron during your first trimester if you work on increasing your iron consumption from food sources.

If the size of the pill is what's making you gag, you can switch to a chewable or liquid supplement or a smaller pill without calcium. Calcium is a very bulky mineral, and you can probably get what you need from separate chewable calcium supplements or dairy products.

Make sure that your prenatal vitamin contains vitamin B6 (or talk to your provider about taking a separate B6 supplement). Research indicates that vitamin B6 may help relieve nausea in some women during pregnancy.

Whatever you do, it's very important to make sure to continue to take folic acid. The CDC reports that women who take folic acid (a synthetic form of folate) in the months before pregnancy and during the first trimester can reduce the risk of neural tube birth defects in their baby by up to 70 percent.

The recommended dose of folic acid is 400 micrograms (mcg) a day while you're trying to conceive and 600 mcg once pregnancy is confirmed. (This is in addition to the folate you get from food, which your body doesn't absorb as well as the synthetic kind.) Your prenatal supplement should contain at least that much.

the above is from babycenter.com... hopefully it will help :)

i also wanted to suggest something to look into... there is more than one way to get DHA (omega-3 fatty acid), but it is something that is now being added to nearly every formula because of its benefits to babies... taking it while you are pregnant gets it to the baby during crucial development time... so, just something for you to look into and talk with your doc about... here is a link to one brand that is made from plant extracts, but you can get them made of fish oils too... this link does a good job of explaining the benefits and where you can find DHA in foods as well...

i have a friend at work who LOVES fertilityfriend.com... she has shown me some of the site and it is loaded with lots of great info and support...

best of luck to you all ;)

I have been a bit gassy but I figured it was just me or what I was eating...I wonder if the prenatals are the culprit. They don't make me queasy, I got them from Walgreens.

I've done the charting in regards to most fertile days, but actually taking temp. using basal thermometer and things of that nature I have not done.

I wanted to get the ovulation kit but my aunt talked me out of it.

Fingers crossed!

A bit of a stupid question....Should you start taking the Prenantals before you get pregnant?

Yes. I have read many places it's better to start taking them while you are trying to conceive because it helps supply your body with nutrients that can help even at conception.

I started taking them in October, even though we didn't start trying til Jan.

They don't upset my stomach, but I always take them with a meal. Mine aren't prescription, they are Target brand.

I have been doing the temp charting for 3 months now and it has helped me pinpoint my ovulation, and it can vary by a day or so each month. I didn't get a basal therm, because I think it's just a ploy(I dont know). I just use a regular digital thermometer. I think as long as it can tell you 1/10 of a degree, it's fine. Most seem to anyway.

I don't think it's a necessity to do all of it unless you really want to know(like I do hehehe), or if you have tried for a few months and still haven't gotten pregnant. Then charting may really help.

I love this!

I have trying the blogs at some TTC websites, and I dont know, I just felt like I didnt fit. I guess, it is not so common that you add things like ... trying to adapt to a new country to the stress of TTC...LOL

Anyhoo, I dont even own a regular thermometer (maybe I should already!)but then again, my body is VERY sensitive to the whole hormonal cycle thingie... if I was not charting, I would know the day I ovulate, because I get this stupid bugging lil pain in my ovaries that I hate every month.

This month was very particular in the bugging pain, but I dont want nor I know how to interpret that.

Thanks for the info Keltic! I will have to take a look at my prenatals, I am not too hopeful for this month, I dont know why. Though I have felt weird (not even sure how to explain it)which makes me think that yes... we have it. I dont want to get my hopes up, because later when I get my period, I'll be REALLY dissapointed.

Ok... See ya girls around!
