Well…

It’s a clean new month for me. Like I mentioned in my last post, there are some things brewing, and I don’t know if it’s smart or not to try and get pregnant now. We’re not avoiding it, but again, what are the odds since we’ve been consciously trying for at least 5 months and nothing? I don’t know what the correct procedure is, but maybe if I post it here I can get some insight…

I am being offered a job in a new company, this job will also require travel (not as crazy as my actual job – but it is definitely all year round), it is a bigger company, possibly with an increase of at least 15% of my actual salary. This is a Corporate position in a really-really big company based here in Pitts with operations all over the world, however, my travels would be only US, Canada and Latin America (as opposed to Europe all the time now). In my actual position the possibility of a pregnancy has been already discussed with my boss, and she’s open to it and even though she has not specifically said it, I know that there will be certain concessions regarding the traveling part. The pay is not great (I know I am being underpaid considering the market and my actual position), there was a promise of an increase by mid-year (I got promoted in January and was in a kind of training period – which wasn’t specifically defined either). The traveling in my actual company is quite seasonal, we travel a lot during the first six months of our fiscal year and then trips are local (as in very local) during the second half. On the other hand, my boss well, she’s kind of a gray cloud… and even though she’s totally nice to me, she’s the kind of person that is able to drain all excitement from a situation, and even though I don’t mind it too much, it takes a toll on me when we travel.

I don’t know if it’s appropriate to bring the topic of a possible pregnancy (soon one since we’re seeking) to my prospective employees, and I don’t know if they will make concessions (wont know until I tell them about it right?), and I don’t know if they will keep on trying to hire me if I come clean with this situation (but then not telling them will not be really honest), the money topic, I am sure that my actual company will make an offer if I tell them that money is my drive for leaving them (which actually is not – not that more money wouldn’t be good, but I am not in dire need of it as of now).

I should maybe sit and write down what are the pro’s and con’s of both companies and make up my mind, some days I am totally like ready to leave right now, and some others the thought of leaving is absolutely scary… (also, this is my first job in the US and I kinda have a sentimental attachment to it, since they waited for me for 3 months to hire me, and now that I am in the new position, management (higher management) are noticing me and including me in meetings and stuff.

Aaaargh!! It’s such a difficult decision… any insight will be welcomed…

Where does everyone stand this month? Who is out, in, not sure?

Hubby and I have been hoping to get pregnant for 6 months now, but it hasn't happened yet. The good news is, we both had various fertility tests done and we are perfectly "normal" and healthy. So...I have to believe that it'll happen when it's supposed to.

Unfortunately, he's in Lima until mid-July :crying:

This getting pregnant stuff is not easy. *sigh* I know those trying for longer than me will say "duh!!".

So I'm still waiting for the time to come, trying to trust God.

Tested this morning and got a VERY faint positive.... anyone else had this happen?

I have heard it happening to many people over on babycenter.com where I post sometimes. A line is a line! A False positive is very rare, so I think you are pregnant!

It should get darker and darker if you wait another couple days to take it again. The HCG will be multiplying and will show up better on the tests each day.

Ana-I am not sure if you should tell the prospective employers about wanting to get pregnant. If they ask if you have plans to have a family(which should be none of their business!) then maybe you can discuss it. I know for your own sake you want to ask, b/c you don't want to have to travel constantly when pregnant, but it's risky I think, to talk about it before you work there. Especially if the job description is something like "has to be willing to travel often". Hope you figure out what to do! Sounds like a stressful decision. Good luck! :)

Well, I am out this month :( Oh well, we just started trying so I didn't expect results so quickly.

Ana - I agree with Stina about not necessarily telling a company right away about the pregnancy stuff. Also, I think a pros and cons list is a good idea. I have done that before to try to make a big decision and it has been helpful seeing everything in black and white.

Honest - it's going to be tough to juggle baby and career no matter what job you are in. I also travel A LOT for work (75%+) and am not sure 100% if the timing is right, but life is short, you only get one go at it... I'm not getting any younger and things always work out in the end :) I say take the job if you really want it and then let nature run it's course!

As for me - I am impatient and tested agin this afternoon with a different brand of test - got another faint positive.... feeling kinda nauseous, pretty sure it's just nerves though!

Candalaura,

the same thing happened to me with my daughter, the line was so faint that at first I thought the test was negative. I took like FOUR tests in a row and always the faint line.

I've read that ANY line is positive. I waited about a week, took one last test and got a nice dark line.

Congratulations!!!

Thanks girls!

I know that coming out clean wouldn’t be a really good move if I wanted to actually get the job. On the other hand, it’s so funny how I can be really certain about something (decision wise) and about some others I can be a total nut case! Some days I am completely sure I want to leave my job and start on a new company, some others I feel like a baby that’s being left for the first time at school and clings on his/her mother’s legs ‘cause he doesn’t want to go (with a whiny tone and everything).

I haven’t done the list yet, but like I said, I know that my actual company will not have a problem with me being pregnant and making concessions if I need them (which I don’t think and that brings me to the family and friends question from Lizzy), and I don’t know how the new company would be about it.

Regarding having the baby and not having anyone (family or friends) here is certainly one of those things that you dread when you decide to have a baby, especially for those of us who immigrated or simply live far from our relatives. My husband has a friend that is a dedicated baby sitter, she’s taken care of all her sister’s children (including a set of twins) and she’s had 4 or 5 of them at a time. I went to a party where all her nephews were also, and it was amazing to see how much they loved her and how nice she was with them. She offered to take care of the baby if we needed (sorta-kinda a day care thing). On the other hand, I had my mother in law living so close, that I was sure she was going to at least be close for motherly advice, but she passed away in March, so that wont be happening now. These were all long term plans, because I knew also (since my mom has tourist visa) that for the birth and the first months, my mom was going to be able to stay here with me… It wouldn’t be the same, back home I have a legion of aunts and cousins who would’ve been all very involved in helping me take care of a baby when I had to work (the best of all, it would’ve been free).

I haven’t figured that one out (I mean, as far as cost, efforts, etc.), I believe that day care is one of those things you have to seek when you have the baby in your arms (I believe it’s 6 weeks of baby leave?). Anyhoo… Im babbling now... hehehe…
