don't they charge a fee to use it outside the usa? kind of like cell phones?

omigosh i have no idea but the thought of using my cellphone overseas makes my insides cringe now!!!! I just got a SECOND bill from cingular for yet ANOTHER $500!!!! I thought I had only spent $500 on phonecalls but since half my trip was in Dec and the other half in Jan it was really a total of $1,000!!!!! I really need to devise a better plan for the next time I'm there.

What do you all do as far as keeping in touch with everyone back home while you're overseas? :help:

I have an unlocked quadband phone. It will work in any country and with any local company's SIM card. Then when my SIM card is in the phone, I can receive calls or make calls (though at the international rate for me).

i have the same kind of phone. its great you can buy SIM cards in any country you go and switch them out.

Just wanted to add, I bought my phone from T-mobile, but had to ask specificlly for an unlocked phone. The shop didn't have one in my model so he ordered it and it was in by the end of the same day

i had a phone that was locked from t-mobile, but you can ask them to unlock it. they email you a code and you do a few steps on your phone, and its unlocked! i'm not sure all phones are this way through t-mobile but that is the process i did so i could buy sim cards in other countries.

I could get my t-mobile phone unlocked but it wasn't so easy to do this awhile back . . . that's why I took my older phone to Egypt . . . I left it there anyway for the relatives to use in case they needed one.

Of course, now I am thinking of upgrading phones again . . . it has been 2 years since the last one, hehe, sooooooooooooooooo, I'll have to check out getting it unlocked when I get the new one.

3 more sleeps til we leave! Are you ready Catherine? Deemabrouk?

We have just a few things still to buy. We have assigned seats already. We are an A & B and alone in our row/section. That's good cuz I don't want to nap and wake with my head on a strangers shoulder!

I have assigned seats but i am in the back of the plane . . . mid-section mostly and i like aisle seats!! just as long as the crying baby section isn't right behind me, i'll be ok, hehe!! But I've gone the whole way with a crying baby, so it could be worse.

Finished my shopping. . . now to shove it all into the suitcases. Oh, and the requests to take stuff that hasn't been bought/delivered yet . . . . hope i can squeeze it in! :innocent: AND I hope i got the weight balanced . . . 50 lbs per bag, 2 bag limit . . . i hate having to shift things around when i get to the airport!!! worse yet, i hate to pay the overweight fees!!!
