I thought it might be nice to have 1 place we can all go to keep track of our friends before, during, and after their travels to their SO's countries instead of having all sorts of multiple threads. We can share things to take on your trip, they can update us as to how everything is going, how their flights were, how they were treated in customs, anything having to do with traveling and coming back. Maybe we can get this pinned so they can always find it when they are short on time and want to give us all a quick update.

What a cool thread! I know there are many MENA members traveling soon. Our flight is one week from tonight and I am getting nervous. I have a million things to do before we leave. I will be signing in while in Jordan, to check for email from work. Due to my VJ addiction, I will be checking here too!

Janine is in Morrocco. Who else is flying somewhere? Catherine leaves next week? Can liquid makeup come on the plane with me? I have no idea how all my clothes will fit in our suitcases. Thanks Amal for starting this thread!

Yes as long as it is in a bottle with the ounces labeled on it and is 3oz or less. You cannot pour it into a container that does not have the measuements on it. Here is the list of what you can and cannot bring:

I'm sure you can take liquid make-up but it can not be in any of your carry-ons. It has to be checked in.....

6 days til vacation! and panic is setting in. I am a list maker, and looking at it, I'm not sure how to get it all done. I even made a list for my son. He is 22 and will be staying here alone and taking care of the house and the fish. I made him a list, 'Monday-feed fish and bring in mail. Tuesday-feed fish and bring in mail.' oh better add 'water the bamboo plants'.

Stuipd question---will the American Express and Capitol One charge card work in Jordan? Do we have to let them know we will be using it in a different country?

i would call them ahead of time to tell them you will use the credit cards there. that goes for your ATM as well. they are getting more and more strict with fraud protection (i also have a captial one card)

and it would be awful to have all that money but not be able to use it!

omigosh i have no idea but the thought of using my cellphone overseas makes my insides cringe now!!!! I just got a SECOND bill from cingular for yet ANOTHER $500!!!! I thought I had only spent $500 on phonecalls but since half my trip was in Dec and the other half in Jan it was really a total of $1,000!!!!! I really need to devise a better plan for the next time I'm there.

What do you all do as far as keeping in touch with everyone back home while you're overseas? :help:

i used my husbands pre-paid cell phone once a day to call my mom and she let everybody else know what was happening. We went to his internet center about every day and I got online on yahoo and talked to my son and the rest of my family. We used webcams and voice so they could see and hear that I was really ok. The only problem was that the closer to the end of the trip we got, the more tired I was so my mom kept asking if everything was ok. gotta love moms.

ATM's do. its best to take out a big sum of money in one shot than going over and over during your trip.

as far as i know my credit cards don't do this. i should look into it...
