Am not a woman, so never had a child, but I have some knowledge of this.

Not a good idea for her to be flying, especially half way around the world.

I think, it would be very hard or her, if she did get the visa.

So in a way there is absolutely no way to get her to come to US just for a week l.. I guess she has to come to Canada. We can't do Skype or anything already tried that

Don't count on her getting into canada either. I'm sure marital issues could be dealt with post baby as emotions tend to run high

That's exactly what I have been telling her and warned her it's not safe and is very uncomfortable but right now she wants nothing more than coming here or Canada just to see me to solve issues. She is willing to take it all on her

You need to make it completely clear to her the hazard she is exposing herself to. And the baby.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

She needs to check with her doctor to see if she's fit for flying. some high risk factors due to pregnancies could make it unsafe to fly that too last trimester. Standard protocol for a lot of doctors is no flying after 30 weeks but depends on your doc.

You need to check with airlines. Varies with airlines but some may not let a person who is 8 months fly due to possibility of going into labor. It would help to have a note from doctor that lists expected due date/some some of certificate from doctor.

I'm not usually one to judge and go beyond facts and practical advice, but in this situation I cannot help but think how sad it is that a woman feels she needs to fly across the world and back in one week, while very pregnant, to prevent a divorce. Surely there must be other ways.

How far along is she? I agree that it is extremely crazy for her to fly in her condition, especially that far but doctors says it's okay up to 36 weeks though you really need to check with the airlines. Long haul international flights have stricter rules because of the limited amount of airports to do an emergency landing at since they generally fly over seas.

Also make sure she flies with an airline that still allows people to walk around in the cabin (US Airlines tend to frown upon it). She needs to make sure that she is walking around once every hour to prevent blood clots (they can kill you) she also needs to make sure to move her feet while seated for the same reason. Maternity support panty hose (not knee highs) to improve circulation is also recommended. Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine.

Why can't you visit her? Why put her and the baby's health in risk for a one week trip? Why can't you hop on a plane and go save your marriage? How are you going to solve this if she's either denied a visa to both US and Canada or the airline reused to let her board the airplane due to her pregnancy?

I agree with this, it's strange, and I put odds of this really ending up being a positive maneuver as very low.

That said, woman have of course traveled this far along, including long trips, and will continue to do so. The result for the bulk of them is taking a flight that already is hellacious if you're in coach and making it simply worse. Medically she is likely to be fine up to 36 weeks. But of course some women deal with pregnancy differently; 36 weeks for some feels just fine, whereas others are counting down the days, in substantial and continual discomfort. If his wife falls into the latter group I imagine coming off a one day of international travel is a bad time to try and resuscitate a marriage.

If you pay enough you can get very comfortable beds on flights, though, in which case this is all moot :)

Good luck!

you said that you can't go to Australia for a week (I guess because of work issues) but if you can travel to Canada for a week, how come you can't travel to Australia for a week? if I were you, I would try to travel to Australia to save my marriage, I wish you luck, but I see hard for you to get a visa for a week for your wife.

Take it from a pregnant woman...

I travelled from Toronto to Tampa, about 4 hours total flying time with hours of layovers in between at 31 weeks pregnant. I was definately NOT comfortable even for that little amount of time. I'm actually shocked that I didn't get a second look from both the CBP officer and airline staff as I look closer to 40 weeks or so. On top of that they gave me 6 months! But I'm Canadian.

What could possibly be so important that she needs to be here?

I agree! I'm currently 29 weeks and I flew from Washington DC to Kinshasa for work at 24 weeks pregnant and even with a layover in Paris to break up the 16 hour flight I was so so very uncomfortable. I wore compression stockings, walked frequently and drank lots of fluids and my legs still swelled and I was so uncomfortable. I can't imagine doing it now that I'm even bigger than I was a few weeks ago or on an even farther journey like Australia!!
