EP&PE, how much evidence do you have? I've seen a lot of people say not to bring a lot because it seems desperate. I know the Yaounde embassy doesn't like desperate. When is your medical and your interview?

Anyone who tells you not to bring so much evidence so as not to appear "desperate" is not only being misleading but probably also ignorant. According to U.S. immigration laws an alien (non U.S citizen national) seeking admission to the U.S. carries the burden of proof. Burden of proof must be demonstrated satisfactorily before a visa can be issued. For all non-immigrant visas the burden is proof of non-immigrant intent with the exception of K1. For immigrant visas it's proof of bona fide relationship with CR1/IR1 carrying the most burden on immigrant visas because of marriage fraud especially in 3rd world nations as they're considered high risk nations according to the State Department and USCIS. Unlike those adjusting status to permanent residency in the U.S. from a non-immigrant visa, It can be difficult to gather solid evidence with CR1/IR1 applicants since spouses are in the U.S. and vital bona fides such as joint bank accounts, credit cards, rental leases, insurance, tax returns etc are unavailable. As a result CR1/IR1 applicants have to overcompensate to make up for all these with lots of other evidence.

You obviously didn't read my last post, so I'll say it again. People here are applying for different visas, so the procedures and norms vary. EP&PE is applying for a K-1 VISA, NOT CR1/IR1. If you were paying attention instead of calling people ignorant, you might have noticed that.

I have read countless stories of K-1 petitioners for African fiance(e)s who brought hundreds of pages of conversations and photos be denied. Obviously I don't know for sure the cause, so that's why I said "I've seen a lot of people blah blah blah." I also have colleagues who have shown up in Bastos extremely eager and nervous for tourist visa interviews, some would say desperate, and been denied. Obviously that's a different kind of visa, but the general principle applies. And who are you to judge a satisfactory amount of proof? Did you write the law or can you tell us about when you were a consular officer?

I read what you wrote perfectly and I've seen the timelines of all the people on this forum. I know EP is a K1 applicant. A K1 visa is the only non immigrant visa with an immigrant visa burden of proof and I said that was the only exception. By the way I don't have to be a consular officer to be knowledgeable in U.S. immigration law to advice people. Matter of fact consular officers apply immigration laws mandated by U.S congress. Apart from the fact that I've worked in an immigration law firm for years, I've lived in the U.S. for 11 years now counting in different non-immigrant visa statuses (F1 & H1) and also now a permanent resident so yes I've been there seen it heard that. It was a point I was making not an obligation to you to follow. I didn't equally make any warrants that having all these bona fides was gonna sail you through like a breeze because in the end consular officers have a final discretion and no 2 applicants are interviewed the same. You may bring a lot and of course you could still be denied if they're not strong enough to satisfy the consular officer, however you can't be denied for bringing a lot of bona fides. That's where quality ones come in the picture to help. Even with that it's still not 100% guaranteed. What I disagreed initially and still will do is there's no provision in the INA for a consular officer to refuse an applicant a visa because the applicant is"desperate." Desperation is not an inadmissibility in Immigration and Nationality Act. Criminal, health grounds, public charge etc make up the list.

Relationship progression here is what you want to show. Sort out your stacks of these bona fides periodically according to how your relationship progressed beginning from when you started dating to this point. Stress on the ones which are big or changing events like plans, trip arrangements, meeting especially with family, major purchases etc not just casual ones. Use same for the pictures. Since you're K1 you also want to show you've met within the last 2 years in person. If you're a woman and your fiancé bought a ring in the U.S, he can send you receipts of purchase or certified appraisal as most jewelry stores here offer one when you make a purchase. This can also be a great evidence. Your passport is the main travel document so you're covered in that section as well without an ID #. Embassy is probably off hours because of Independence Day observance which is July 4th.

Muhkoo, I think your being harsh here. What starkilla09 gave was an opinion which can be analyzed under reasonable person standard. You ve read other forums people share opinions and ideas and no one dare question if he/she is consulate. I m not trying to give any moral lessen here but I think what was written was not supposed to provoke such response. Let's moderate our conversation so that others should love following our posts.

For my CR1 interview, I intend to print 20 pages of yahoo mails from 2008-2014, where we discussed about our love lifes, difficulties managing distant relationship and marriage plans. 12pages of Facebook from jan -march, printouts of viber from April-June, Skype printouts for one full year (2014), whatsapps calls from july-interview date, pictures we took since we started dating till marriage. A total of 50 pictures in an album, including traditional wedding we did in her absence. Hey, she came home for court weding!!

Obviously, marriage certificate would be included in our proofs.

Moneygrams and express union receipts from 2008-2015

I hope I didn't miss anything here.

It was a point I was making not an obligation to you to follow.

Yeah, your point was to call me ignorant and misleading, which was uncalled for. You certainly seemed to have missed the fact that she is a K-1 applicant because your advice was all about a different visa. Your advice was also very definitive, which I think should be avoided in situations where you don't know the full story. If you have worked in immigration, you should know this.

What I disagreed initially and still will do is there's no provision in the INA for a consular officer to refuse an applicant a visa because the applicant is"desperate." Desperation is not an inadmissibility in Immigration and Nationality Act. Criminal, health grounds, public charge etc make up the list.

It's called discretion. I never said there was an exact provision about desperation, which obviously makes no sense. Consular officers make decisions every day based on gut feelings, whether or not they admit it and despite putting down other "official reasons" in the books. That's a big part of their job.

Please do not tell me to moderate my posts. I find calling someone ignorant much more offensive than asking someone if they have been a consular officer (which would be extremely relevant and not a ridiculous question given the way Starkilla09 was giving advice). What I gave wasn't even an opinion or advice; I simply stated what I had seen in other posts. If I were to say what I really think it would be that K-1 applicants should NOT print hundreds of pages because it is extremely cumbersome on those adjudicating the cases, wastes paper, and, most of all, is overkill for Cameroon.

Throughout this thread people have been acting like the same rules apply for each visa when that is definitely not the case. Spousal and fiance visas are very different as are the expectations for each. I also personally know people who have worked at the embassy and others who have been denied visas and they all told me similar stories.

Do they mean the Cameroonian carte d'identite #? I would assume that is the number they are looking for.

What Starkilla09 said about just the evidence showing the progression of the relationship is good advice. I would also add copies of hand-written notes or letters if you have them.
