So...I'm going to say it, in my post, the way I see it. What I have noticed about YOU is that you have the most wonderful strength of character, basically...you are one helluva ballsy lady. You may not have thought it at the time of your accident, but I think it was YOU yourself who was strong enough to make it through.

I think sometimes, with religion, people tend to attribute too much to God, whereas I think they should sometimes take the credit for stuff themselves. Whether they managed this through their beliefs or not is irrelevant; if they didn't have it in them in the first place they wouldn't have been able to achieve it.

I am Thankful my husband is here with me. Yesterday he was in a car accident. We had this freaky weather yesterday and it rained and turned all the roads to sheets of ice. A couple of hours later the sun came out and the weather warmed up and melted all the ice. I asked one of my dialysis patients how the roads were when he was coming to the clinic and he said they were bad but he made it. I told him about my husband's accident and how our car was damaged. He told me, "My father once told me you can replace iron but you can't replace limbs". That made me feel even more thankful my husband wasn't injured!

I agree, Steven! LOL. We aren't buddies and have had our issues and all, but it made me cry as well when you described your mom and what she said to you and her passing out...both for you and your mom and also thinking of 'what if that was *my* child',etc? Has the be the absolute most awful thing a parent can go through, just short of actually losing a child, and what you came through is astounding as well. I'm really glad you made it through all parts intact. I'm thankful for a lot of things, too, but I've had a really long day so I'm just going to keep it simple with my friends and family tonight (upon edit--I guess not!)....oh...but I do have to add. We had "Great 8 Winter Games" today...they are the 8 local area schools getting together for sports competitions all day long and they even had an opening ceremonies, etc. (kids grades 4-8-- they do it every year--they try to make it seem like a day-long mini olympics--they even light a torch at the school and put it out again right away..LOL) and they always have the vets bring out the flags, they have some soldiers there to honor, and they always sing "proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood and a student does the national anthem. (A girl in Corey's 8th grade class this year!) That Greenwood song always makes me soppy, but this year a woman from town here was sitting in front of me (we all sit in our own school's sectioned off areas in one of the team's gymnasiums) and her son was in Iraq....as we all stood while the song was playing, she was just bawling....had mentioned to her, talking back and forth before it came on, about how it always made me sad and she said me too....as I watched her cry and the soldiers stand and salute the flag as it played, I thought about how many times I think that I AM SO grateful that I happened to be lucky enough to be born in the United States of America and how grateful I am for the people that "gave that right to me." Also, just thought of this...got my hair trimmed yesterday and she cut my fringe *way* shorter than I like...kike halfway up my forehead instead of at eyebrow level... (argh!!! she usually does a great job...anyway...) I said to one of my best friends, Peg, as we were walking in the Winter Games today (after venting to her about it) "Ah well, there are a lot worse things, right?" and yeah...I was gripin' about it, but it is SO minor....my hair grows fast, and even if it NEVER grew....not nearly a big deal. Anyway, ok...this went on WAY longer than I meant it to,but yeah....grateful for a lot of things...those are just a couple. M.

Really good post.

I praise God for many reasons. I am thankful that there are still so many good people out there who actually care about others and helping others..

This whole visa / long distance thing can be a real trial and tribulation for many but as you pointed out, there are people out there going through much much worse..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I am thankful for many things..

My brother... He was a long time drug addict (morphine/opiates.. the hardest ones to get off of..) and he is now clean, has quit smoking and drinking and is all clean!! Its incredible how well he is doing.. he has a steady job and is getting married this june.. I am so happy at how well he is doing.. even a year ago or so you wouldn't have guessed that's where he'd be right now. He's had such a rough life.. but now he is doing extremely well.. Praise God..

I"m thankful that my sister has finished her school and has a great job, even if she is moving to the other side of Canada where it is.. I am thankful that she can start a new life for herself over there..

I am thankful that my mother made it through surgery just fine back in January (she had a pacemaker put in..) and that she survived the heart attack that she had a little while back..

I am thankful that after my husband and I both lost our jobs at the same time (we were working for the same company), that I found a job within a couple of weeks, and that he should be getting unemployment.. I am thankful that we have a roof over our heads and cheap rent. I am thankful that our car is almost paid off.. I am thankful for opportunities to go back to school in the near future for careers that we will enjoy...

I am thankful for all of our kitties, and that Hershey is getting better after being sick again this winter..

And of course, I am thankful to have my husband.. who is even sweeter than I ever thought possible, who loves me so much and whom I love..

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

(thank you LisaD this is a great thread..)

It wasn't the plan

of the thankful man

to sing praise for his blessings each day.

Instead he was keen

to pass on what he'd seen

to the people whose paths he would cross.

A little smile here,

A kind gesture there.

A compliment, ernest not false.

A thank you,

A nod,

The tiniest thing - he knew of the magic in these.

For the kindness he'd seen

in the eyes of his son,

a wee boy a bit past his knee.

A childs sweet gaze

Simple and sweet -

Where trouble is far and away.

The tiny small voice

full of trust and delight,

And the love always strong and complete.

A days troubles were nothing

to the grateful man.

He had all that he needed and more.

And to pass that sweet joy

to those he passed by

Was the ultimate way he gave back.
