If you are planning on free lance work rather than being a real employee, you could do a quick ceremony as soon as you can , file immediately to AOS and EAD. If you can get commitment from a company you might be able to try an expedite based on financial loss. You might even have a better chance for an expedite because contractors are picking up work that has a limited hiring window.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

After my wife and I were married we applied for AOS, and the EAD/AP card came as a "combo" card, and both for the price of the AOS, if you file later for either, in my opinion, you would have to

pay extra, if you only applied for an EAD or an AP card separately.

The fees are waived when filed with a pending I-485. You can file them all at the same time, or file for the EAD and AP after submitting the I-485. The fees are still waived.

This is not true. Once you file AOS, the fees are waived for the EAD and AP no matter when you file them. If you file later, you simply include a copy of your NOA1 from the AOS application.
