Relax, K1 is a non-immigrant visa it's really confusing coz it is used with the intention to immigrate to the US. Just wait for your fiance. I know his interview will be over soon. :)

I`ve read that once it changes from immigrant to nonimmigrant means they accepted it and it will get issued very shortly, if you type your question in the VJ search bar you`ll see several threads about this :) CONGRATS!

I think that this is quite funny how the whole process takes so long and it involves so many steps, documentations etc and each embassy treats it as different type of visa (non/immigrant). I would imagine that when they are so strict about the whole thing they would have guidelines for each embassy to treat it the same way!

You bring up a good point. Here is my take on it. Each country has different requirements for those procedures needed to insure that the visa application is not a fraud. So each has their own procedures based on historical information. Here is an example of what I am talking about. Say you are processing out of the UK for a visa to the states. Well, the UK has laws that effect the documents that are needed for the interview. But, since those laws are strictly enforced then there is little fraud to be perpetrated. If you are an applicant with the Embassy in the Philippines, those same documents, in the past, were forged as you can pay any official in the Phil and the document will reflect what you want it to say, or skipping altogether the process to attain a "clean" document.

To address your second point about "different type of visa (non/immigrant)" I can say to you this. Yes it is strange that they use those two words interchangeable, BUT they only do that with the K1 visa. All other visas are either one or the other. Second item is that ALL Embassies use that nomenclature (non/immigrant) so it is treated equally from one Embassy to the next.

I hope I have been some help.
