Congrats!

Thanks Kash2011

Apt time: 9:15. I arrived 8:30. Checked in by 8:45. Given # and told to waited to be called - They didn't seem to follow any sequence. Almost everyone called before me came out happy so I figured they passed.

IO called me in 9:30 - followed her the office and took pledge to tell the truth then was asked to sit and give her my GC, DL, passport and interview notice letter

IO - Proceeded to type something on the computer in silence (felt like forever) then asked if I was ready for the test

1. What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?

2. Who is the Governor of your state now?

3. Who was the first President?

4. What movement tried to end racial discrimination?

5.Where is the Statue of Liberty?

6. Name two national U.S. holidays.

Proceeded to do the reading and writing test - then said I passed

IO then proceeded to review the information on the application the lengthy yes/no questions

Read through the paperwork

Asked if I like to change my name

Then printed out paper to verify information was correct and sign couple papers and pictures

Asked if I had any question then handed me a paper and said congratulation and wait for my oath ceremony which can take up to six weeks

I'm hoping sooner but for now I am excited - #onestepcloser

Hi everyone,

for all those who are still waiting, after many months, to be scheduled an interview, I will give you the latest on my case.

So the USCIS had, out of the blue, sent me a letter saying that I had requested that I reschedule my biometrics. I never did this: why would I? My biometrics were done on July 2. The letter they had sent me told me that my "N400 application was on hold until I completed the biometrics." And that my ENTIRE N400 appilcation would be forfeit if I didn't show up for the biometrics appointment (in mid October). So I was kind of concerned.

The USCIS helpline couldn't help, they said they didn't know. The local biometrics office - I went there in person - checked and said my biometrics were fine, all done on July 2. They said I should send a letter to Virginia to cancel the useless biometrics appointment. So I did that.

A few days later I called to find out what was going on. Again, the USCIS line was not much help at all. They didn't know why the letter was sent.

BUT... the Tier 2 let slip one thing. "Oh," he said, "you are coded here as having not attended your biometrics on July 2. Don't worry about it, it's a glitch, I've seen it a few times before, the system says this and the applicant on the phone swears that they did the biometrics on that date. Oh yeah, I've seen that"

"Hnnnnnnn?????" I said. "But maybe this is why they sent the letter. And maybe this is why the application is delayed? Could that be the case? Is that the problem?"

Long pause, then: "No...I don't think that would be a problem. And there is no delay. You are still within the six month waiting period. Goodbye."

I'll do another Infopass, maybe they can tell me something, but at this point, I have no more hope at all. I think they regularly screw up people's applications, fight off any attempt to query - let alone fix - their incompetence, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. They are a law unto themselves, we are just s***kickers, and that's that.

Hi Suzy,
I was placed in line in September- but I think possibly because I'm coming from Scotland! in response to your other statements about moving here- nooo don't do it! Hehe. I hope he gets scheduled really soon! x

Hi Callum,

Thank you for the update and sorry to hear about this.

i don't know what is happening my case also. I am done with my biometric on July 21st. No news after that. I think person who took biometric might have screwed stuff.

They don't understand our frustation. Do you think, i should call the customer care or take infopass?

If i take infopass what option should i select?

Hi everyone!

Just wanna share my interview experience last Oct. 02, 2015 @ Oklahoma City.

Appointment was 1:00, arrived at 12:15 pm. Had to wait in the car coz we could only get in 30 minutes before our appointment.

At 12:30 pm went to security check. They check my appointment letter and asked me to drop it on Window 3 and wait till my name to be called. I was called in around 1:30. She asked for my GC, drivers license and passport. We did the civic test right away.

Reading Test:

Where is the White House?

Written:

The White House is in Washington, D.C.

Questions:

1. What is an ammendment?

2. What is the supreme law of the land?

3. Who vetoes bills?

4. Who did we fight during WWII?

5. What is the capital of your state?

6. What did we show loyalty to when we say the Pledge of Allegiance?

After that, she asked me to swear to tell the truth. Then she goes to my N400 application form. She just mainly verifies my answers on the form. Then she told me she would recommend me for approval. She let me sign the last part of the form. She was typing something on her computer. Then she showed it to me and said if all information is correct coz it's what going to appear on my naturalization certificate. She hand me a document showing I passed the test and told me to wait for my Oath letter within 60-90 days.

Thank God the interview went smoothly and thank you VJers for all the help.

Good luck to everyone!:)

Hi n400app,

sorry to hear that.

My take is this (but this is just my limited experience...):

The USCIS helpline will DEFINITELY try to brush you off with standard answers: "everything is fine, the local office in your area takes ten months, just wait and see." The Tier 1 person you speak to will not even look at your specific case unless you have somehow already put in a query, normally they will simply tell you vague information about your local office.

But if you are persistent and polite and speak to a Tier 2 you may find out some things. But you can learn more from an Infopass, I think, because they are nicer in person. They are less inclined just to read the script at you.

The main thing is to be humble and polite. *Be very careful* about mention of information from places like VJ or elsewhere on the internet. (For example, the actual average times to interview, not the official ones.) You could carefully ask questions informed by knowledge you might have, but you definitely don't want to seem to them like you are questioning their authority in any way, or implying they are wrong. There is the official line and they stick to it 100%.

There's probably absolutely nothing you can do, to find out what is happening or to make things go faster. But sometimes it is good to know you checked anyway.

Good luck with it!

Here is a recap of my interview experience last September 29. Interview time was at 12:45 pm but me and my wife decided to go early so we can still relax a bit and maybe do some light reviewing. Left the house at 10:30am and arrived at the Los Angeles Mall by 11am. Parking was a breeze and it is in front of the USCIS building so it's very convenient. We stayed there for a bit and was even surprised to see a friend who apparently did his citizenship interview as well (He passed it by the way, so congrats!). He told me that the crowd on the 8th floor wasn't bad and there were only a few people during the time of his interview. He told us also about his experience and how the officer he had didn't smile at all till after the interview. All this chit chat just made me really anxious and nervous about my interview. About 12 noon, me and my wife decided to go and fall in line. We passed through security and just as we were going to the elevators, my wife decided to just stay downstairs by the snack bar. Apart from being hungry, she feared that the immigration officer will call her in too (Lol). Anyway, so I went up by myself and was greeted by a nice security guy. He asked for my papers and he gave it to the window, told me to have a seat and wait for my name to be called.

The waiting room wasn't that packed and I guess there were about 10-15 people in there. All were busy reviewing the booklet. The tv was turned on and quite frankly, it was a bit too loud. My interview schedule passed and I was slowly becoming more anxious and nervous. 1:30pm came and still my name wasn't called yet. I decided to stand up, stretch and walk around a bit. I asked the security where the water fountain was and went there to have a little sip since my mouth is starting to dry up. Going back, I saw 2 different couples with different results, I guess. One was crying and the other was laughing. That actually added up to my anxiety. 2pm came and I was finally called by a middle-aged Latina. My heartbeat went to overdrive and I know I was shaking. She greeted me with a smile though, which made me calm down quite a bit. She asked me to follow her and when we got to her office, she instructed me to put my stuff on the desk and remain standing so we can do the swear in. After that, she told me to have a seat and we began with the 6 questions. We breezed through all 6 and she said we'll move on to the reading and writing part. In all honesty, I only remember 1 question from that which is "Who is the Vice-President?". Moving on, when I finished the reading and writing part, she said that everything is perfect and we just had to check the paperwork that I submitted. She went through the application form, reading everything back to me till the "Yes or No" part. After that, she had me sign the application and she moved to the documents that I submitted. She asked if I brought the original copies of my income taxes. I handed over the files which dated back to 2011 but she only wanted to check the last couple of years. With that, she then said, "Congratulations, you passed everything and you can relax now". She printed some stuff and told me to double check all the information as that would be on my certificate. I honestly didn't pay much attention to that and just signed it coz I was still overwhelmed with all that's happening (haha). She then asked for my green card and passport and told me to wait back for her coz she will just photocopy it. Upon returning, she printed the approval notice and handed it over to me, along with 2 texts (The Declaration of Independence and The Citizens Almanac). She also said that hopefully I could be included on the upcoming oath ceremony which is on the 14th. I thanked her and she did the same, which is odd but she told me that I am one of the easiest interviews that she did for day and added that she always likes it when she sees that applicants are prepared with all the documents because it makes their work easier. With that, she escorted me to the exit and said I hope to see you on the oath ceremony. Going down the building, I couldn't help but smile. When I saw my wife downstairs, she immediately knew that I passed. We kissed and went our way out of the building. We had a little celebration afterwards, dinner and all.

Anyway, I think this is becoming a novel so I better stop now. (Lol) I hope that by sharing this experience, I would be able to help someone get over their fears and stuff. Everything will go well as long as you are prepared. By the way, I also received a text/email notice the following day (September 30) that my case was updated. Checking online, it said that the oath ceremony notice was mailed. Yesterday, Monday, (October 5) I received the letter and confirmed that my oath will be on October 14 at 8am. To the good moderator, KASH2011, finally you can update my status. Thanks again guys and I'll try to post my oath experience after (shorter for sure).

John

Congratulations! How relieved you must feel!

What is the difference between an original tax return and a photocopy- I've had to write 'photocopy' on the ones I took copies of because the originals looked exactly the same!

I've done so much immigration paperwork I no longer really know which ones are the actual originals! ???

John
