N-400 June 2015 Filers

I called just now. I was surprised how quickly I could get to speak to a real person. However, that person only read off the info I already knew including that the St. Paul office is currently working on December 2014 applicants. Wish we lived in one of those fast-processing states! It is SO maddening that we cannot plan anything because we do not know when his interview will be. I should mention that we are both retired and travel a lot. We have already given up a trip to Glacier Park this fall because we would have crossed into Canada.

I know, I know, we are lucky to have the time and money to travel when most of you are young and struggling. But we were once young and struggling, too. And now, after many, many years of hard work and sacrifice, we would like to be able to enjoy these years that we both saved for. (My husband is 74.) But instead we are stuck at home, waiting.

I see your state, and wanted to share what we are doing. We went with a "YOLO" policy - just made plans and are travelling.

I applied in june, BIO-ed in July; am going to Jordan next wk; UAE and India In Nov.

My current projection is to get a letter for interview arnd 8-10th of Dec; and then an interview in 1st wk of Jan. (Slow state in Seattle; spokane, eastern WA is quicker)

Ofcourse they could do that during the travel as well, but i figured if that happens, i will call in for a different interview slot than live a life based on govt scheduling :-)

The indecision because of the uncertainties can be super frustrating; so we are just travelling, and figured IF we have an issue - we will figure it out then. Not say NO to life in anticipation

But you can't leave the U.S. while they are processing your N-400. Actually, you can probably leave, but you won't be allowed back in. Your Green Card will be flagged.

I think you had better look into this further before you take off.

I think you had better look into this further before you take off.

That is not correct. You can travel as many times you want and no one will flag your Green card or have authority to stop re-entry of permanent resident. Make note of all the dates of entry and exit of your travels as you must update your application at the interview and provide with dates of your travel after the application had been submitted. I already have two trips to Canada since I filed N-400. Hope this helps.

Golfer is 100% correct. Just bring your travel log and passports to the interview, where you will amend the application during its review.

This is not correct. You can travel with your Green Card. What makes you think they would flag your Green Card? Even when your Green Card application is pending, you can travel on an approved form I-131-Advanced Parole.
