Esalaam, Salut and Hello

Is it just me, or everyone else here pretty feed up with online ME/NA groups? I am a member of 3, and all 3 I am just hate. tried of the biased and judgemental BS they pass off as a social and support group... I see no support and ill mannered socializing. I would if I could just jump throu cyberspace and bop some of these people.

When did a forum about Algerie turn into the looney and judgemental Salafi hour?

I cannot understand WHY there can't be a forum for members of various MENA countries which offers helps, ideas, support, comfort, love, understading and COMPASSION! Why can't ppl embrace the beauty of our diversity... WTFunckles ...

I am going to time some time, to think... search for new groups... and if I can't find one... make my own!

Sorry just had to vent!

Oh LOL I was SO just feeling this today. I was having someone tirade at me, refering to me as "some non-muslim" and dodging my question about extravagence at Eid: ok? or not? because her point was westerners are the only ones who do this and the Eids are flawlessly practiced my all Muslims around the world, and she flat out told me no Muslim has EVER taken out a loan for Eid. Ever. I didn't even go into the fact Santa exists in Egypt, where she wants to hijira with her husband, or trees, OMG. LOL! I'll let her figure out that on her own. She was so excited she could get to ehr third choice, Egypt, which was 3rd because she feels Somalia and Iraq are the only two properly Islamic states. I just left ALL of that alone. Sigh.

Of course she was one lone person in the group which is generally really great! Even if they are pretty strict.

I belong to a shami-husbands group which is pretty good but really not active LOL.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

I totally hear you! The main forum I am on, an Algerien forum for foreigners married to Algeriens. We have a diverse crowd elhamdullah, all of religions, backgrounds and locales. Buuuut it seems if you are not a Salafi Muslim who is dreaming of living in KSA then you are not worth talking to or listened to... I cannot understand it. As the forum name suggests it is baord for women with connections to Algerien...where did extreme radical religious docrines get in there? I am tried of reading PM after PM of 'sisters' taking pity on me false religion and trying to 'guide' me into wearing niqaab. Yea right buddy! So funny to me, since there is like 3 of us on there who actually post intellient threads worthy of debate and discussion. But no, how to improve the state of women in Algerie is over looked, but islamic cross-stitching and how to be submissive to our husband has 20+ pages.:wacko: (big sigh)

Anyway I am not trying to start stuff... just venting.

Anyone up for starting a MENA group? Since I find all you ladies much more intelligent and worthy of time, then those ones....

I feel your pain, Henia. I gave up on those groups years ago when a bunch of half-azz so-called Muslimas decided to use the group to actively help an adultarous "Christian" woman destroy a Muslim marriage. I decided that wasn't for me. Haven't missed belonging to an egroup since.

Yep Henia! I feel that! We could start a support group! It would be nice :) Maybe one where you could discuss stuff about the whole married to that guy thing and culture, also it would be nice if it included just daily things with us because daily life is what keeps you going, you know? Like T-shirt dresses are $9 at walmart. :) Just little things! No OMG Evil Evil Kufar Kufar! :)) being tossed around at everyone, Muslim or not! That is, btw, what I term "counter-dawah" and some are very good at it :)

I have actually started creating one. I hope to get all the forums in by this weekend, then I can share the link with everyone. Might be a success, might not...but worth a try. In any case, if no one joins or starts to morph into some terrible I could anyway delete it. I am all for REAL support group, where diversity is celebrated, no judgements are passed.... well ok this world is not prefect...so we will see.

I have had different experience. I belong to several and I find them very supportive. Some of the groups have been together for years and very close friendships have developed.

I belong to a book club, a weight loss group, 2 Jordan groups and the 'not active' group you laughed about. Hope you find the right fit for you.

MM2E, WOE, WOE2 et al were originally one group when I was looking to join. Then kablam! I think WOE was the original group.

I usually get the "non-muslim" wife comment any time I try to participate in an online group. :( I don't have that much patience so I gave up and occassionally post here.

I was trying to be involved in the bookclub yahoo group, but I have yet to receive the first book. I think I might have to search through some used bookstore in the area.

I love the not active group! I actually like it's inactivity, but with it being not active it's harder to get to know people! I am friends with b. and I also joined another group of women who cover from Islam/Christianity/Judaism. I belong to other groups as well whicha re really rpetty good, but they are not MENA support groups and it's harder to get epople to understand the whole process.
