...or the VJ member who regularly smears over 400,000 plus Catholic priests by casting them all as pedophiles or molesters.

I'm not sure there's an 'or' to that statement.

Who are we talking about here?

The Catholic Church and its staff are an institution. While obviously not all Catholic priests are abusers of children it's reasonable to conclude that there is a problem in that organisation at several levels which has damaged its reputation and the confidence of it's followers. That is rather different than saying that all Catholics are child molesters and pedophiles. I don't believe anyone here has made that claim but I could wrong.

See the difference?

So no your example is not really the same as smearing followers of a religion en masse, since we are talking about a diverse range of people from a variety of cultures vs a relatively small group of people from a secretive institution.

It's not really relevant to your comparison. A more apt one for the Catholic priest example would be the controversy over corruption in FIFA. Are all FIFA staff corrupt? Probably not, but there's enough of a problem to suggest that a serious shake up of management is needed.

Yup, I see the word "or" in my post.

You asked a question, I answered it. Don't like it? Sorry about that but as far as I'm aware, VJ allows me to post, I'm not required to justify my position.

Feeling guilty?

Guess what kind of person deliberately smears large numbers of people.

I don't see any reference in here asking about race. 400,000 Catholic priests is a large number to me.

Well the question was largely rhetorical and you chose to answer it with something that wasn't really relevant. I don't have any particular feeling about it, just an observation.

Yes, you changed the context. I noticed that.

Exactly! I merely answered your question. Forgive me, I missed the rhetorical inference in your question. I was simply adding to the discussion.

No hard feelings...yet.

If your question was indeed rhetorical, then changing the context (however I did that) makes it moot.

Phoenix (CNN)Jon Ritzheimer is a former Marine ????

This must be a new breed ?

I have always been told once you Earned the title Marine, you be one until departure from this planet !!

LMAO

Marine 1

I don't know how new of a breed it is. "Former Marine" is what we were taught in recruit training at Parris Island. Maybe it has changed since got out, it seems that more common term now is "Veteran Marine". I refer to myself as a "Former Marine" as do most of the guys I served with.

There is no MCO or regulation concerning how you address someone who has left active service but there are several acceptable terms.

"Ex-Marine" is reserved for those with a less than honorable discharge.

"Former" or "Veteran Marine" is acceptable for anyone who has been honorably discharged.

"Marine" is acceptable and considered complimentary to most of us.

"Retired Marine" is self explanatory as is "Lifer"

And former CMC General Gray wrote that it was acceptable to use the Marines last earned rank at any time after active service.

I'm guessing there's a Sunday church service sprinkled in there somewhere. Provoke? Provocation is skipped moving directly to killing and massacres.

What about here in the US? Or is this the new rule when it comes to Muslims, since they don't act up in the numbers here needed to smear them, you turn to overseas?

If you say so, after all your perception is your reality.

Well if your perception is that I am "the VJ member who regularly smears over 400,000 plus Catholic priests by casting them all as pedophiles or molesters" it's a perception that you must have arrived at without any reference to anything that can be perceived.

However, I do believe there's a difference between commenting on the Catholic Church ( insular, secretive organisation hit by a sex and corruption scandal) and making unsupportive sweeping generalisations about catholics in general.

I have no issue with Catholics, just as I have no issue with Muslims. How about yourself?
