Safarjal...means there is no need for NICOP and protector ...am i right?

Protector, there's no need for. NICOP, I'm going to need. It's possible that you won't, if you have no plans to return to Pakistan EVER, or have ANY dealings with Pakistan Embassy, USA. Most of us, immigrating or not, do intend to return to Pakistan to visit, and don't cut off all connection with Pakistan so have to deal with the embassy, so yes, there is a need for NICOP.

Though you can always get it later, when there is a need, from the embassy.

No, we did not protect our visas. The Protector department told us that that was specifically for work visas.

We applied for NICOPs at NADRA. There's a separate NICOP that costs more for USA, UK, etc, than for Saudia. It's possible you'll need the USA one. I think the USA NICOP cost a bit more than 10,000 rupees (10500, if I remember right) per head. NADRA says that it's required for every Pakistani living abroad, Green Card holders too. The Pakistanis here say that Pakistan embassy refuses to deal or provide any services to a Pakistani until he shows a valid NICOP. So far, we haven't needed our NICOPs for anything (not even exit from Pakistan), but we're expecting a child soon, and will need to have that baby registered as a Pakistani citizen with Pakistani Form-B, NICOP and Passport ASAP, so for us it is mandatory to get NICOPs, in order to deal with Pakistan embassy in the future.

You can also apply for and get a NICOP from the Pakistan embassy in USA, after arriving here. Our assumption was that it would be more expensive, more of a hassle, and take longer, but we don't have any actual experience with that.

I'm sure that in the normal run of things, if you are not planning to visit Pakistan again after immigration, and do not need to deal with Pakistani embassy, then the US authorities will not be requiring you to have either a NICOP, or a CNIC.

Does Nicop is neccessary for making green card...?

This is a link to the US customs form you must fill out on the plane. The plane crew will distribute them. It's good if you have your own pen, as they don't give pens with. http://www.cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/sample-declaration-form

My husband filled out the form for the entire family. As you can see, a family traveling together file one form.

We did actually make a guess as to what the value of everything we were carrying together would be, (clothes and toys, a pair of laptops, phones, toiletries, etc) and put that value down. It wasn't a lot as we were not carrying anything valuable.

If you need help filling out the form you can always ask the customs officials at the airport to guide you, as we did. But it's faster for you if you have already completed your form on the airplane.

From my experience, they send it out pretty quickly to the embassy, It should probably be there a week later after it reaches NVC. As far as the interview goes it depends on when they send you packet 3 (it took me a month to receive it, for others it's only a few days) and it also depends on when you send it back. Once we sent packet three we got our interview date pretty quickly, maybe a few days.

But as you know the Islamabad embassy has been having some delays, so at this point in time, all of this may not apply. Best of luck!

Anyone else got their case creation date changed to July 22nd? And get AP soon after?
