AOS Interview in Kansas City

We had Danny's AOS interview in Kansas City on the 14th. We arrived at the USCIS office at about 8.30, our appointment was at 9.00. The waiting room was pretty full but we only waited for about 20 minutes before being called in. The agent who interviewed us was pleasant and business-like. The first thing he did was go through all our biographical data, asking us to confirm birthdates, address, employer, etc. He asked Danny a bunch of questions about whether he was a terrorist, had ever commited crimes he wasn't arrested for, bought or sold drugs, etc. He asked us how we met and we gave the brief story and timeline of meeting on the internet, visiting each other several times, deciding we didn't want to be long distance, proposal, K1, marriage. He asked us if the marriage has been consumated!! And also if Danny was practicing polygamy!

Then he asked us for documentation to establish that our relationship is valid. I gave him copies of our joint car insurance, joint bank statement, and a signed statement from my mother stating that we live together in her house (we don't have a rental agreement or anything). Danny had put our picture album on the desk, and the agent asked to look through it. He then stated that he didn't have the power to approve us, and the case would be reviewed further. He stated that our task that day was two-fold, to convince him of the validity of the relationship, and to convince "the service" of the validity of the relationship. He said that he had no doubt that our marriage was valid and was entered into for "the right reasons", not for immigration purposes. He gave us a letter that said our case was under review and we would hear something within 120 days. He then explained that once the case was approved, they would send a letter to tell us, and the green card would come separately a couple weeks later.

I was really nervous before the interview, but it wasn't that bad. We were very over prepared. He didn't even glance at all the other paperwork we had with us. He said if they needed anything further, they'd send a letter and request whatever documents were necessary to make the decision on approval.

So I guess at this point, it's more waiting. I just wanted to share our experience so that maybe others could benefit from it. Good luck to everyone!

Yes, it is awful! Our interview was scheduled on Wed 2/14, so we planned to go to KC on Tues 2/13 (we are about 4 hours away). The weather started getting bad Monday so we left when I got off work Monday night. We only made it about halfway and then headed out again on Tuesday. It took us about 5 hours to drive a distance that should have taken 2! It's the first time we've ever been to KC so my first impression was icy roads, freezing cold and snow blowing at like 20 mph! Hopefully we'll be able to visit again when the weather is nicer! :P
