Go ahead and flame me...

I think it's marvelous. Big women ARE people, after all. I think this shows that these women are very comfortable with who they are. AND believe it or not, some men actually LIKE big women! Imagine that! If you don't, of course that IS your prerogative. I've seen some skinny women that made me feel quite beautiful. :)

Just my 0.02 worth for this week. :)

It was not my intention to flame you or any other Ms. Karen..I apologize if it was taken that way

I hate that it's ok to laugh at these women. Something about that just bothers me.

You are absolutly right Karen. For every body type there is someone that finds it beatiful. That is something I have been trying to get Luz to understand. She thinks that only tall, light skinned women with big boobs are attractive to men. Nothing could be further from the truth! I love my petite dark skinned angel! Madison Ave and the fashion industry have brainwashed too many among us. There is beauty in everyone!

Hmmm. My post wasn't actually laughing at these women. I actually find these pictures are exploiting the "largeness" of the women involved. They are deliberately highlighting the obesity. I am not sure if that is publicity seeking or a genuine appreciation of the larger build.

If these ladies are comfortable with their size, great, I'm not knocking that.

But, I wonder if the reaction would have been the same if it had been a bunch of anorexics doing the hokey cokey instead.

Let the flames begin.

I didn't take it that way at all. I just assumed that when I posted my comment someone would come along and have a hay day with it. No need for an apology at all! :D

I would assume they are comfortable with their size, I can't imagine having pictures made as such without some comfort level. Maybe to Mr. Nimoy it's art. I do know that to some on here, large women are very unattractive. This discussion has been brought up before.

As for reactions to anorexics, who knows. It's pretty clear that the standard in America for a woman to be thought attractive she should be skinny. Models today are very skinny, almost to the point of anorexia (Kate Moss for example). Anything larger is generally met with laughs and comments.

Interesting question Mags...I'd be interested to see what the answer would be. :)

Plus sizes in the UK are size 16 and up. I think that is a US size 12.

I wasn't necessarily talking about how the stores do the sizes but what people think about sizes... and a lot of people think that anything over size 10 is plus size... even size 8 or 9.....

The UK, although it has this skinny fixation too, doesn't really class anything under a size 16 as big. Celebrities of course would class a size 14 as obese, but celebs aren't quite like us normal people...

lol, no they're not. But, the fixation society has with celebs is where this fascination with being skinny comes from. My little girls in my classroom are all about looking like Britney, or Hannah Montana (whoever she is) and other teen celebs. Just this week one of my third grade girls was complaining about being "fat". Sheesh!
