Can anyone help?

If I will be going through Naturalization and have the opportunity to change my name.

I also anticipate getting married sometime after my naturalization.

Should I take advantage of the Naturalization process and change my name to my future spouse's name or hyphenated? So that on my Naturalization Certificate and Passport, I will have the name I want in the future, instead of having to change it after getting married on my passport AND naturalization certificate, and other things such as banks etc.?

BUT, if I change my name to my spouse's name before getting married, would it be weird because technically when we get married, we would be A Robinson marrying B Robinson? Or can I use my old name to get married?

I am just trying to make this as easy as possible in term of process. Therefore, I thought the easiest way is doing it during naturalization. And I won't have to change name on important stuff (like passport) that could have had my future name.

Hi

I’m scheduled for N-400 interview in March and my wife’s birth certificate and passport  has her previous name. Both first and last names have changed. Will it be a problem if I submit her birth certificate as proof of US citizenship

I'm super confused....why not just get married, then change your name that way? That is by far the easiest because then all you need is the marriage certificate as proof.

Submit her birth certificate + her court order name change (or any other documentation relating to how she changed her name).

If getting married before N-400, wouldn't you have to change your name on the GC with USCIS before applying for N-400? And this could take forever as anything with USCIS?

So changing the name via N-400 then would skip the step of name changing process?

Ohhh, I see what you mean. That's a great question. If the GC and the name change becomes an issue, then yeah, changing it at the oath I think will be the easiest.

Hey guys

I have my interview coming up

I have all documents required ready but my Bank statements are printed online so are the utility bills, life insurance

I hope, not having the originals wouldn’t be a problem

And also I picked 4-5 month statements every year since it’s 4 years of each statements and I have 3 bank accounts with my spouse, and several utility bills

On the N-400, I chose no on the question of name change but now I changed my mind. Can I still add the name change at the n-400 interview?

Another question, I filed my N-400 online. Where do I get a copy of my application. I assumed there’d be a copy in my account or emailed to me but haven’t received anything so far.

During your interview, I believe you will be asked again if you would want a name change.

If you log into your account, there’s a box there where it says, show my case in a snapshot. Try if that will show your application then print it right away. I was able to view mine once and forgot to print it. The next times I tried viewing it, it was showing as errors.

Hello, I am about to start my N400 process. I live in Colorado.

I am divorced and my current legal name is still with my married name (Drivers license & Green Card).

Should I submitted the N400 form with my married name but on the interview day I ask to change my name to my maiden name and show my divorce paper?

Or should I submit the N400 form with my maiden name and send a copy of my divorce as back up information?

TIA for clarification.

Hello! I have my interview scheduled on April 22nd, and I already requested a name change in my n-400 application. That will be a minor change (misspelled fist name).

Should I bring anything to my interview? Should I contact our local court before the interview?

Thanks!

You can change and/or correct almost anything at your interview. So a name change isn't an issue. They will then show you all the corrections that were made at the interview and have you sign them.

Under the documents tab in your online account you'll find a link that says "view snapshot" or something along those lines. That's your online application in "paper form".

If you are approved for citizenship, and if naturalization swearing-in ceremonies are conducted by a court in your area, then you will be able to change your name legally at the ceremony. Your name change will take effect immediately after the ceremony has ended.

Can anybody help? I got divorced and want to go back to my maiden name, nothing else would change, however today in my interview my IO said she couldnt do a name change because it has to be through the court and they dont perform judicial ceremonies, which was so confusing because it's just going back to my maiden name. I got a "decision cannot be made" and she suggested i try to change my name through the court that way when i came back for the oath i'd have the paperwork, but my county is telling me I don't need to change my last name through the courts if it's because of divorce. I'm so confused.

Could I then just get my certificate in my married name and then just use the divorce judgement to change my name everywhere else or does the naturalization certificate must also show my maiden name?

Maybe a silly question but I have anxiety around it

NYC, if relevant

I had my interview during which I signed the name change thing (just to drop my middle name which is my Russian patronimic). I got approved and last week I got a letter about the oath ceremony being scheduled. In that letter, I still do have my middle name that I asked to drop. Is that because the name change I signed won't be enacted until after the oath? Or was something not recorded right after the interview and I should call them and ask?

AOS

I might be wrong, but you're still under your old legal name until the oath takes place, probably that's why the letter has the old one.

If you have any doubts you can contact your local uscis (the officer who interviewed you, his name is on N-652 form) and clarify it.
