this here Queens school's PTA do things a little different than my kid's school.......

http://nypost.com/2015/05/24/no-pay-no-play-kids-who-cant-pay-10-fee-banned-from-school-carnival/

The must-pay rule excluded some of the poorest kids at the elementary, where most parents are Chinese immigrant families crammed into apartments and “struggling to keep their heads above water,” staffers said.

Are these chinese immigrant families that poor?

I have seen those 'poor' people with nicer things than me

If the school wants to hold this paid carnival, then they should hold it during weekends so that people could have a choice to decide to attend or not.

The PTA in this school is wrong, and breed selfishness.

All the kids should have been let on the rides.

Our school practice this "no child left behind" model. (The Halloween pumpkin pick being the last event, paid or not, all kids got to pick a pumpkin).

As for the fooks, yeah, as I've told you, some are that poor, some just don't understand what the school wants, because they may not be literate in any language. But I think there's a lot of Central Americans as well.

Anything the school does during school hours should include everyone. You can't tell me they didn't have the funds to cover the kids who didn't have money, I call BS on the a/c.

1- <Shrugs>

2- of course they did, the carnival was already paid in full. The school's PTA made what? 3000 dollars? That's why the news and everyone is shaming that PTA right now. I mean, I'm empathetic, I get it, you hate fooks too, and frustrated by them, but a young child is not the people to take it out on.

Yesterday, we went to lunch at a won ton joint. A fook with his family decides to cut right in front of us to get a seat. Baby's Godfather uttered "Hey Dooshbag! There's a F-ing line!". I can't believe this fook tried to pick a fight, Baby's Godfather is 6 foot 2, 250 lbs. So, I said: "What? what are you going to do? Stupid! Get the ### in the back!"

Now, are we generally so crass? and rough? No way!

But after years of dealing with these fooks, that's the ONLY way to deal with them.

I get it, we hate fooks.

So the fooks are expecting the schools to hand everything free to their kids?

Free schools, free school supplies, free lunch, free computers?

Remember me saying that these people are "Stealing an education"?

1) you should have cursed them "Ham Ka Chan"

2) I know you said before "Stealing an education".

Like Stretch said, during school hours, it should be free for all kids.

If the PTA did not want to do so, then hold it over the weekends, and sell entry tickets.

Then again, how to draw a line when it is free for all kids?

I would think basic education is free. But extra curricular activities (ballet, piano/voilin.. etc classes, sports which are expensive

and needs extra coaching) will be on the parents who can afford for their kids.

Last time, my school has extra curricular activities too (a must for all students).

Those Chinese Orchestra and Bands are expensive activities, not everyone could afford to pay for the weekly musical lessons.

I chose a uniform group that is very low cost with free uniforms. (Girl scouts have to pay for uniforms).

You know, when it comes to stuff like this, there's a lot to debate.

I'm sure that they do have a lot of activities off school hours, as we do. I don't agree with the way that particular PTA did things. And to understand their point of view, you'd have to understand the demographics of Queens NY. They're more diversified than say Brooklyn, or Staten Island, or the Bronx. They hardly have any ethnic enclaves. So in any given school, the social diversity is very mixed. It may be difficult for that PTA to carry the other kids. But according to the numbers that they printed, that isn't really the case.

Who knows. But as a consultant of our PTA, this is something that we would never do. But eh.....our PTA has a tremendous amount of funds, as well as local business backing........

And........

Tooth 8 school girl pic now.......
