Just for clarity.

How long should I wait before contacting the NVC for the case number?

2 weeks after receiving the NOA2 HardCopy or 2 weeks after the approval date of NOA2?

The hard copy doesn't matter - since that's the speed of USPS to wherever you might be. We first contacted them on the 22nd. Our NOA2 was on the 10th, so 12 days. We got our case number today (18 days). Look at our signature!

awesome!!

that depends on the embassy. for example: Brazil...as long as it's in English or Portuguese, they don't require it to be translated. if you can find a copy of your country's packet 3, it should tell you there if it's required.

Thanks! According to CEAC, they have updated our case on the 22nd July, so I hope I will get the package 3 soon... I cannot do anything without getting it by mail, right? Just collecting the certificates, docs etc. they might need...

my "package 3" was an email and all it said was "we received your packet...here's instructions on how to schedule the interview" lol i didn't have to do anything with it, and brazil does not have a packet 4

I'm not sure if your embassy does a packet 3 email or actually mails you something. most likely you can't do anything until you receive that...but it really depends on your embassy. some embassys allow applicants to schedule their interview before they receive packet 3, some embassys require a response to packet 3 before you can schedule it, and some (like brazil) just want you to wait til you get the confirmation that they received the hard copy of it, then you can go right on and schedule it.

you might want to ask in the forum on here specific for your country...but definitely start gathering everything you need in the meantime! it'll make everything much easier when you can finally move on to the next steps!

good luck!

Thanks! According to CEAC, they have updated our case on the 22nd July, so I hope I will get the package 3 soon... I cannot do anything without getting it by mail, right? Just collecting the certificates, docs etc. they might need...

Who remembers the I-129F receipt number game? apparently you can do the same with the NVC case number. The format is EEE YYYY DDD SSS

Where EEE is the embassy, YYYY is the year, DDD is the number of days since Jan. 1 plus 500 (for example, today would be 711?); finally, SSS is the sequence number for a given day

What sorts of statuses display on the for K1 NVC case numbers? apparently many of these cases are actually I-130 applications for CR/IR visa, and they all show 'At NVC'. Right now our number doesn't even turn up for the search (was assigned yesterday).

I'm hoping to schedule my flight once the consulate receives the case.

my own personal opinion: I wouldn't recommend scheduling anything until the visa is in your hand. there's still so many things that can happen at this point.

When the embassy first changes your status to "received" it doesn't even mean they actually received your case. they are first sent an electronic version of your case, which causes them to change it to "received" it could still take a couple weeks from that point until the correct department actually receives the hard copy of your case. then another week or two before they process it/send out packet 3 (depending on your embassy of course). then you don't know what days are available for your interview. on top of that, the visa issuance can take longer sometimes even if approved (if it goes into AP, if they need more information from you etc).

Of course, you do what's best for you...but in my opinion it's too risky to book anything this early. Best of luck!

I'm the USC, the flight would be to Ecuador so that I can attend the interview. We'll schedule a pair of flights once we're approved.

Guayaquil, Ecuador is one of those "special" embassies which have historically semi-required the USC to be present at the interview.

I'm not sure Guayaquil even has a Packet 3 hardcopy, but I'll ask some folks from Ecuador here and see if they actually needed to get a packet

What are the status states as displayed by CEAC?

* At NVC

* Ready

* Issues

I wonder what other states are displayed.

ohhh got it! sorry about that...i thought you meant to book the flight for your fiance to come here haha

yeah, definitely ask in that specific forum about packet 3. my packet 3 was just an email filled with instructions that didn't require any action...but i had emailed the embassy previous to that and they told me i had to wait until i get that email before i can do anything...but every embassy is different.

i think that's pretty much it: at nvc, in transit, ready, then i think there's one for AP (the time between approval and actually issuing the visa-some people only have this status for a few minutes, where others may have this for hours, days, weeks, months...depending on if additional info is needed etc). then finally, issued.

keep us posted!

Congrats! I got my packet 3 by email in the date of update, answering an email that I sent to them asking for it, saying that "I didn't wrote down my info anywhere, please send it here" Hope you already got it!

Bluebook, the DDD part works with Julian Calendar.

Like mine DDD was 687, means was assigned on 6th of July

Quick status update for everyone:

My petition arrived at the NVC this past Monday. I was able to track it, using the DHL trick (yes it worked). Once I saw that it was signed for and it arrived I contacted the embassy to inquire about my petition. The following day they responded to my email informing me that the petition was received and they also provided me with Packet 4 instructions. I responded earlier this morning and they already responded with a scheduled interview date for next week!! However it was on the same day of my fiancée's medical so we have asked if we can have the interview pushed out until 2 weeks from now. Still awaiting their response to my last email and hoping they could accommodate us. Anyhow things are almost at the finish line, its amazing how quickly things go after your package reaches the embassy. It helps to have all the documentation ready to go. Exciting times since two weeks from now my fiancée and I can potentially see each other again after a little over 4 months!! God is good!

Thanks.

I will check around the three weeks mark. It sucks a little bit cuz I planned a vacation for the last week of Aug and the first week of Sept and this is when my case will probably be available at the Embassy, ugh!

That is really exciting that she had her interview today. Please let us know how everything went

Today is the day that my fiancée has her interview! I'm so nervous!! What are the chances of her getting denied ... I'm so scared !!

We received packet 4 today. It came as an email. We are so excited to finally be able to schedule the interview. I am in the same boat as you Shellymarie, I have to wait until I get paid on Friday to be able to help with the interview cost. He still needs to set up his medicals too.

I am just getting so anxious... It's getting closer and getting so exciting!
