congrats! Yes, just wait for contact from the embassy. If they do their contact by email, you should hear something within the next few weeks from them once your package gets routed to the correct department ect. They will provide you with the next steps you need to take. For now, just start gathering all the required documentation. good luck!

as i stated earlier, it's advised to wait on all that. i filled out the ds160 early (before i knew it was advised to wait) so I'm not sure if it's ok or not. as far as the visa fee, at least for brazil, that gets paid when i schedule the interview online, which can't be done until the embassy contacts you. (of course all of this depends on your embassy. it's all country specific. check your country specific forum for exact answers).

Hey all, I just received my case number from the NVC :)

I have a question though, on the DS160 under travel information it asks for the Application Receitpt/Petition Number.. Is that the number provided from the USCIS or do I use the case number provided to me by the NVC? I believe it's the USCIS number, however I want to make certain. Any light on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hey...:)

I believe it is the NVC case number. That´s why you cannot file the form unless you have the number or received the packet 3.

I found some instructions on another website that said uscis receipt number.

So.. Personally, I put down my USCIS receipt number but I've searched this and it seems people have done either one (nvc case number or uscis receipt number) and have said they had no problems so I think either would be fine.

I searched it within these forums and most people agree that both the USCIS number AND the NVC case number work. Ideally they just want a number to tie the application too, since the USCIS case number and the NVC consulate case number are tied together in the whole file, putting either or will connect the DS-160 to your entire file.

But from searching the forums, as of jan of this year people have put the NVC number (new case number) and they had no issues.

I had an "in transit" period before it got to Montreal, and then when it got to Montreal it said "ready". I emailed my Packet 3 contents then, but nothing happened! I waited a week and emailed Montreal via the inquiry form (you cannot call Montreal) and they said that it was still in transit from NVC. After everything I basically took this to mean they hadn't done the final log for it yet at Montreal and it was in a pile of papers somewhere. Two days after, my case update had changed on the CEAC tracker, and I emailed Montreal again where I played stupid and said I was confused and I didn't know what to do next (lol). They told me that they had JUST sent out packet 3, but that I could also find the packet 3 instructions online. I just assumed that they ignored my first email because they hadn't sent packet 3 yet, so I immediately resent the packet 3 email and received packet 4 via email within 2 hours.

Long story short... you can try sending packet 3 but if you hear nothing, just wait until your case updates again on the CEAC and send it again. If you use the inquiry form they are pretty quick at responding (usually within a day or two). Here's the link to the inquiry form: http://canada.usembassy.gov/contact/public-inquiry-form.html

Hope this helps!

We just tried calling the NVC, and after getting through with a representative and telling her our case number, she told us our case was in "pre-sort" and that they haven't inputted it into their system yet.

I'm guessing this means it's been physically received by the NVC, but they haven't assigned a case number yet.

Oh wow! that's crazy! Thanks for the advice! It's very helpful! I might give it a day and then send them the packet 3 just to be slightly safer that they got it! Too bad that we can't ring them (or i'm sure they're relieved :P)

We just tried calling the NVC, and after getting through with a representative and telling her our case number, she told us our case was in "pre-sort" and that they haven't inputted it into their system yet.

I'm guessing this means it's been physically received by the NVC, but they haven't assigned a case number yet.

Yeah NVC has been slower the past few weeks! Took over 3 weeks after NOA2 to get a case number! Good luck!
