Drivers license/test

Not sure where to post this. I have looked all over and can't find an answer.

I have my license, and I am going to be moving to Arizona.I am wondering if I have to take a drivers test? Does it depend on the state or where I am coming from or do we all have to take one? Anyone know?

It varies from state to state. Your best bet is to check the state's department of motor vehicles website.

I live in AZ and moved here about 1.5 years ago. All you need do is go to the local license bureau and show them your out of state license, pay the fees and off you go.

OH... if you bring a car to AZ expect to pay a couple hundred dollars for your license plates. That is if your car is a couple years old. It will be more if it is new off the floor.

Great news! Thanks. I looked at that site before but did not see anything about it. I am hoping to bring my van, it is a 1991 so pretty old.

Is my Canadian license ok until I get get one in AZ?

I think I remember seeing that once before Cristy...that you can drive on your Canadian license til you get your AZ license. You might want to email them and ask though, just to be sure.

Yes, you can drive off your Canadian license until you get your state one, provided the Canadian one is not expired.

i was just reading on that site and it doesn't really talk about if you are moving to Arizona from another country...

I found this but this only applies if you moved to Arizona from another State....

I was also reading that "According to Arizona residency laws you will need to immediately obtain a state driver's license and registration"... so I am not sure if you could drive with your CAnadian license... but I would contact the Arizona DMV and find out exactly what you need to do.... DMV rules do vary from State to State

Yeah, your canadian license will be fine. I showed my Cdn one at the Phoenix office and they issued me an AZ one. However the license will expire every 6 months unless you can show a receipt. I showed them my I-797 for a pending I-485 and my license now says it will expire one year from the date of that receipt.
