That Moroccan of mine calls me "Moody" or "Moody Camel" or "Baby Moody Camel" or anything that has to do with "Moody". He says he loves when I'm in a bad mood. I call him "M3afen" which means "spoiled" in Arabic. I also call him " Ya Maghrebi!". I guess our terms if endearment are not that endearing....

But wait!

I call him "Jelly bean" when I'm in a good mood (go figure) and one time I called him "Baby Beluga" which is after a song about baby beluga whales. So he naturally didn't know what a Baby beluga was so he texted me one day saying "Baby Balloona!" which means basically meant "Baby Baloon". Thanks honey.

When I read the title of this thread I thought it was MENA nicknames....like names that we were given by family not necessarily by our SO. Perhaps it's not done as much in western cultures, idk, but in the many MENA countries just about everyone has a nickname. Growing up the following is what I and my families nicknames where.

I am Sho Sho (said more like Shu-Shu)

My son's is Taruk

My Hubby's is Toty

Did anyone's MENA family give them a nickname?

As for what my SO and I call each other. He's Baby, Gozee (my husband), or ya Agooz (means old, lol!) or Baba. He calls me Baby, Mrati (my wife) or if I am not really paying attention ya Magnoona (crazy) <--Somehow that always get's my attention.

He calls me: Baby, Honey, Baby love, Baby Girl, Mommy, My love, My heart, My butterfly, Sunshine, My Egyptian Princess, Austaz (means sir in Arabic lol), Wifey, My sweetness, Honey bunches of oats, Yoya (my family calls me that one too), etc.

I call him: Baby, Honey, Baby Boy, Honey Bear, My love, My heart, Daddy, Baby boo, Mr. Confident, Johnny, Hubby, Hubsy Bubbsy (have no idea what that means lol), Korkor El Nawwam (something more like sleepy rooster lol), etc.

I love these...haven't seen a lot of Iranians so I'll add some...and I few Koreans ones we adopted

My husband calls me:

azizam (honey in Farsi)

golabi (means pear..it's also joke between us)

jagiya (korean for honey)

Kourtney-ah (very Korean, usually they add -ah at the end when they are aggravated with someone, but again we do it for fun)

my queen (but i never understand when he says it )

babe or just B

I call him:

Mahdi-golabi (a joke)

Mahdi-oppa (oppa is Korean for big brother)

Wow, I remember in 07 when I originally posted. I'll post the nick names we use now...

I call him:

NooooooorAddiiiiiinnnnnn

his whole Arabic name for 7 generations...it rhymes, so I like it lol! I usually say it in the way you sing "1, 2, buckle my shoe".

hajji (this is used a lot)

darling dear (now usually used when we're fighting and trying to be civil...such as "yes...darling dear...but....")

He calls me:

ChANtrYYY

Kontry

Habeebti (not very often anymore)

Darling dear (again, usually said through gritted teeth)

Hajjeh (this one is used 2nd most frequently, to ChANtrYYY)

His little brother (in his 30's, but still little brother) calls me:

Queen, or some other form of royalty...it's strange...but I'm cool with it

His mama calls me:

chanty (like a sea shanty) coz she can't say my name.

Oh yeah, U have heard that translation also. I have had people say it means "spoiled", "smelly" "disgusting" and "dirty" so I guess my husband is all of these wrapped into one! I know it's not the nicest nickname but I think it's just TOOO funny! I'm a mean Zaytoona!

I guess as far as a nickname given to me by my MENA friends/in-laws (from Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco, etc.)I will always be known as "Zaytoona". It's been like this fior years. Forget about my real name of Olivia, I will always be a little Arabic olive to them all!

'spoiled' as in spoiled milk or spoiled meat...YUCK! Not 'spoiled' as in spoiled brat....which I guess has a similar meaning lol!
