relationship proof

My fiance's interview is on Tuesday and I am flying down tomorrow. Due to the long backlog in the DR, I wrote letters to my Congressman and Senators. Would one take those letters and responses as proof or would that possibly piss off the interviewer?

Does your congressman or senator know the both of you personally? If not, how are their letters any proof of relationship between you two?

The letter would be just one extra piece of the tons of documents that I am taking with me, the more the better I think. Also, I'm not sure if many scam artists would take the time to write their Congressman and Senators to try and fix a backlogged situation at a US Embassy. Then again that's just me.

All of your other info should be fine, but I guess it couldn't hurt to bring it along and present it if things weren't looking so good. Me personally, I don't whip that one out unless I really need to. I'd have it with me though....couldn't hurt.

Personally, if I were you I'd try and calm down and forget about trying to outfox the consulate by deluding yourself that somehow you can somehow influence, and possibly circumvent the process by "name dropping"...

Yes, at the very least I would think showing that kind of "evidence" would piss them off and at the very least more than likely get a laugh out of them; if you're lucky.

My advice is to drop the strategy that somehow you're going to throw your weight around as, frankly, you don't have any weight to throw around.....

Save your diabolical schemes to outwit the Consulate when you have a legitimate and real problem. Simply waiting for an interview and an approval/visa doesn't seem like a problem to necessitate such drastic measures. :D

Outfoxing? Circumvent the process? Not sure what you're talking about. All I did was exercise my rights as a citizen and wrote to my Congressman and Senator. The letter weren't a means to somehow skip the line or "throw my weight around", rather a way of finding out why it takes 13 months, yes 13 months, to merely obtain an interview at the Dominican Consulate.

Are others waiting the same amount of time? Why get a congress-person involved when you really have no real problem to complain about?

If it takes 13 months, then it takes 13 months <shrug>.....Invoking a congress-person can only mean that someone else could possibly get bumped to the rear of the line due to your "expedited" processing.

How is this not circumventing the system, and why is your case more important than others?

Is this every man for himself?

All I said is that you need to reserve your inclination to name drop for more serious situations rather than the ordinary situation of an applicant that simply doesn't want to wait full term as others have to do.

Not everyone, no.

Why get a congress-person involved when you really have no real problem to complain about?

Perhaps because virtually no other Embassy in the world has the same backlog? Perhaps because some months, you'd be on one spot on the waiting list and another month, you would actually drop down further on the list?

If it takes 13 months, then it takes 13 months <shrug>.....

Except when one called the Embassy one was told it would take 6-9 months.

Invoking a congress-person can only mean that someone else could possibly get bumped to the rear of the line due to your "expedited" processing.

How is this not circumventing the system, and why is your case more important than others?

Perhaps, because I didn't really mention much of my case, rather the backlog for everyone waiting.

Is this every man for himself?

Quite the contrary, which is why we post here as well, to help others. I merely asked a question, if you didn't want to answer, so be it. It was a yes or no question that I initially asked in this thread. It did not call for a book report, just a yes or a no.

All I said is that you need to reserve your inclination to name drop for more serious situations rather than the ordinary situation of an applicant that simply doesn't want to wait full term as others have to do.

Easy for one to say when their timeline is 6 months!

Anyways...............Thanks for the input.

I wouldn't sweat those comments too much. I can relate to where you're coming from. My interview is in a couple of days and I'm going through every bit of documentation I can find.....even to the point of craziness hahahaha. I can't wait for the moment when I bust out the receipt for some cookies and tell them that mine had 12 chocolate chips hahahaha. I find myself paying attention to the smallest of details and my financee and myself just got off a phone call where we were discussing relevant dates (she knows I'm terrible with dates).

This process is very emotional and you just want to feel like you did everything you could to provide evidence with no regrets. You went through this long journey and contacted your congressperson because you love somebody. While the letter might not prove a relationship, it does say something about your dedication and desire. If they said, we can't approve this because we need more proof, then I don't see any harm in taking out that letter and stating that you really love this person and you've done everything in your power to get this done.

Hats off to ya brother and good luck!
