So, while I love my darling C., who took the x-ray with him on the plane to Vancouver, and received the K-1, and I think he's a wonderful man, the silly fool did fold the X-ray in half on the way home to fit it in his carry-on.

Do we ever do anything with this X-ray? Does it matter that it now has a crease?

It was never needed in my K-1 or my daughter's K-2 process. They give it to you just for your info. The medical report in the sealed envelope would give the results of the x-ray, which is opened at the POE.

You don't need to take the x-ray to the interview or into immigration at the POE.

The x-ray was read by a radiologist after it was taken and his report is included in with the medical. Since your fiance 'purchased' the medical exam, the physical evidence that results from this purchase belongs to him - hence he was given the x-ray. Since it can only be properly read by a radiologist, no one from USCIS will require to see that x-ray ever again - it is a souvenir of your fiance's experiences. It may be of use to his new physician in the States as it will provide a base line x-ray for comparison purposes with future x-rays, but that is about it. That is something I have found interesting here in the States - because we pay for medical attention ourselves (or through insurance), doctors will provide you with copies of your test results and items such as X-rays, MRIs, etc, generally upon request if they do not offer them to you. Your regular physician/dentist will, of course, keep these in his files, but technically, they seem to be considered your property.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

The Xray is mainly to prove that he doesn't have tuberculosis, or that it is stable and not active (which would require 3 consecutive sputum samples). Some radiologists will annotate the Xray with a pencil to identify abnormalities that may be significant. At the fold in the Xray, it would be very difficult to read if there is any pathology. It is not terribly useful in people from certain countries, eg US, Canada, some parts of Europe, as a simple purified protein derivative injection can rule out TB in immunocompetent persons. However, in places where TB is endemic or the BCG (vaccine against TB) is administered it allows physicians to rule out TB. As for its use in the airport, I guess customs could detain you for a while and have a doctor look at it again if you had a really nasty cough or something of that sort...

if there had been anything seen on the x-ray when it was done, the doctor's office would have told him and he'd have been treated in Canada before he left, if necessary. If there was nothing on it, then its an interesting conversation piece and nothing more. I think they make us keep it and carry it around with us just to annoy the ####### out of us :P

I picked up my medical today and the girl stressed that I needed to bring the xray for my interview and when I go across the border. I almost corrected her but didn't bother. :)

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.
