I have some bitter sweet news. I applied for my SSN last week Thursday (Aug 13). The job offer I have, has been more than patient with me. I gave them the EAD but they need the SSN. After reading several forums I saw people stating you could go to the SSN office you applied and get the number while you wait for the card to show up in the mail. I decided to give it a shot today, and I must say thank GOD I did! I told them I have a job offer and the employer needs the SSN to do background check etc. The agent was more than willing to assist me, and then we found out NO APPLICATION was submitted for me!!!! He asked me for a receipt and I told him the previous agent told me I did not need one and that my card will arrive 3-4weeks. He asked me what was the agent name and good thing was he was at work TODAY so I saw his lazy a$$ and pointed him out. The agent went over to have a word with him (I have no clue what they talked about, but I assume he asked him "did you submit this application" and he's like "no but tell her something was wrong with DHS" . Anyways, the agent came back and put my information into the system and he verified me instantly with DHS and told me to come tomorrow because it takes 24 hours for the SSN to be generated in the system and 7-10 days for it to be mailed out once verified. He said he will give me the number tomorrow so I will keep you guys updated. He did advised in future to always ask for a receipt because what happens is, when you get a receipt it means the agent DID submit the application while you were there. When you don't it's like some of the agents just take the information and put it aside to get back to it and not remember to submit it....He also gave me a receipt showing that I applied TODAY , but at least he told me come tomorrow to assist with the number.

Do you know if the same service center (say, Chicago) does all of the applications or if it is forwarded to each applicant's local USCIS office?

MSC (Missouri Service Center ) handles the application and if an interview happens then it goes to the local field office near you.

Yes on three separate occasions both for my AOS and EAD. Neither have been approved yet, both at 95 days. I don't know what else I can do.

Yes, it's at MSC too, it starts with the first 3 letters before the number.

I have heard EAD/AP goes to another department and I have heard the same IO that adjudicates the AOS also does the EAD/AP, so not sure,

conflicting feedback.

Looks like I'm in this for a long time to come... mid-October.

I lost an other employment opportunity yesterday because I cannot be e-verified. No update from the senator's office.

The first year of marriage can be really though, USCIS is really testing some of the couples going through this process! Being together comes at a very expensive price and then we also get judged because we immigrated (for my part, I've been dealing with people that think all immigrants are illegal)

The EAD applications you inquired on will be pulled for review and to place them in the more immediate workflow. It is anticipate an action will be taken on them in the near future."

Not sure what that means but okay :-( I hope they get moving

Thought of you and wondered if you had an update... :-) hope all went smooth today for your ssn!

I updated the other threads and forget to update this one ...Yes I went in the following day (Friday) and provided my passport and he wrote the SSN on a piece of paper and handed it to me. He told me the card was mailed on Friday and I should get it soon.
