My combo card arrived on Monday.

Great, congrats!

Did they mention on the USCIS website that they mailed your card out? Did you have to call anybody?

Ebunoluwa, Nervous_Wreck, TheAndies, Mamiof2 are you all going to call today? June thread has started getting approvals as well. I really hope you all hear something soon. Wishing all the rest of you waiting for updates luck

Day 90 today.

I called and did a service request. Then asked for tire 2, he said it will take an hour hold time but the phone was answered within seconds

of the call transfer.

Tier 2 was a bit nicer and said it was not approved yet and that's all she can see. She was a bit testy asking why did I want to speak

to her if I just made a service request with someone else.

I told her that perhaps she could give me information beyond the service request that the first person is unable to access

since we are out of the processing time table.

She said it takes 90-120 days and we are almost at the end stretch. Blah !

She confirmed that EAD's with job offer proof are accelerated which I already knew and we are contemplating applying for a job

and getting job offer evidence to submit.

However that can back fire because many employers won't eve give you a second look and won't call you for an interview if

you have filled out the application with ' work authorization pending' and aren't interested in giving you a job offer letter.

I may contact a senator in 2 weeks instead.

A question about Social security Cards.

When I first got here on my K-1 visa we went to see about getting a social security card and they gave me one that has Valid for work only with DHS Authorisation Only written on it.

Now my EAD card should be delivered soon (notice of approval letter received). Reading the posts here I see many people are talking about getting a SS card and number when their EAD card arrives.

Do I have the wrong social security card?

1

Shows your name and Social Security number and lets you work without restriction.

We issue it to:

  • U.S. citizens; and
  • People lawfully admitted to the United States on a permanent basis.
2

Shows your name and Social Security number with notes, "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION." We issue it to people lawfully admitted to the United States on a temporary basis who have DHS authorization to work.

3

Shows your name and Social Security number with notes, "NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT."

We issue it to people from other countries who:

  • are lawfully admitted to the United States without work authorization from DHS, but have a valid non-work reason for needing a Social Security number; or
  • need a number because of a federal law requiring a Social Security number to get a benefit or service.

i guess there were some who did not get SSN upon arriving here in the US and there were some who did...

for females who did get and was issued ss cards before the I-94 expired i would say we have to go and update our names on the card once we get our combo card because rules vary from different states...there are states that allow some to use their married names (they just need to present marriage license/certificate) but there are some states that will not allow people to have it under their married name, so to match your ssn info you need to go and update the card.

Also it will still have the same number and will show the same endorsement "valid for work only with DHS authorization" because were presenting EAD with it and not a green card. Edited by Glendale

Thank you, that's the answer I was looking for. As a male I wasn't asking about changing the surname, I was asking about the type of card, if it was supposed to be type 1 = People lawfully admitted to the United States on a permanent basis. Or type 2= We issue it to people lawfully admitted to the United States on a temporary basis who have DHS authorization to work. The temporary basis thing was throwing me off there.

So I don't have to do anything with it then.

Yup! Save that trip to the SSA office once you get the green card to have that annotation "valid for work only with DHS authorization" removed.

There is no rhyme or reason to it all really, ask 10 different people and get 10 different answers. I know posters in this thread that received RFE receipt updates later than me and have EAD approved. My tier 2 asked me what is EAD and I said work authorization, to be specific Employment Authorization Document. Really ?!

I agree with you!

Some are so friendly and some seem so annoyed with the callers that they don't even try to help us

They should treat cases in a certain order or at least go month by month. I mean, how some May filers are not approved and some June are (I mean those without expedites or special cases).

I hope there are no more April filers waiting, even those who are not on VJ.

I'm just hating right now lol

Great, congrats!

Did they mention on the USCIS website that they mailed your card out? Did you have to call anybody?

Thanks! The status changed to approved on July 28, approval notice came in on August 1. It then changed to card was mailed out on August 5 and it arrived on Monday. Funny thing is, my AP status is still showing Case Approved on July 28.

I received an rfe for my AOS. I'm expecting a few weeks delay for that.
