Hello all!

I am a May filer as well, I did not file for AP but today I got a NOA for my EAD (dated July 21st). It is just a piece of paper, from reading this thread I think I should get a card soon too?

I have been having a hard time here in Louisiana applying for a state ID at the DMV. They will not let me issue one without a document with any sort of expiration date, is what they say. I have my passport with my maiden name but nope. Last time I went, the lady said that if I get an EAD card or document of some sort with an expiration date, she would be able to issue the state ID. Has anyone else dealt with this? Do you all have state IDs or not?

I guess I could go to my consulate and get started on making our marriage official in my home country and then applying for a new Passport, but my Passport is super new and I would hate to go through MORE forms and fees. Not to mention it is about 6h drive away each way... Bleh!

Seems like your EAD is approved (what does the NOA say?). If YES, then just wait for the EAD in the mail and when it arrived, go to DMV right away to apply for your ID.

You will have your EAD card soon in hand and then be able to get your state ID. We got ours before filing for AOS but different states handle it differently.

No need for the passport trip.

My EAD arrived today! Now I'm looking into applying for a Social Security Number. Will my birth certificate and Australian passport (both valid and originals, though both have my maiden name), plus my marriage certificate and EAD card mailed in be sufficient? They say to send originals, so I'm assuming they send them back again afterwards...

Anyone did an expedite on their EAD,what did you provide to proof financial loss?

Just support evidence of your financial loss which isn't easy to do. For example you would have to show a job loss or income loss then you

would attach a letter from your employer or previous employer etc. It is much better to expedite for a job offer, send such a job offer if

you have one. With the financial loss you also have to keep in mind that AOS is still pending and you don't want to fall under the poverty guidelines.

Someone here successfully did the financial loss (spouse's job ) maybe she will see it and post. I think her flag may have been Sweden, not sure.

Can't you go into a local or even out of town SS office ? I personally won't risk mailing anything original.
