SD 4/14/2015

Checklist for my stepson :(

SD 4/14/2015

Checklist 5/8/2015

Need to submit I-864W form because he is under the age of 18. I'm assuming I've been asked to submit this under the Child Citizenship Act of 2000. However, I was under the impression that a petitioner only needed to submit this form is if the beneficiary is their biological child or adopted. Which is neither in my case. I'm really disappointed that this has set us back another 30 days but it's a simple form.

A follow-up on yesterday's 3 N/As...

Called and confirmed that we had a case complete (May 6). Then, this afternoon got a checklist for 2014 W2, which the petitioner had already submitted--though she had fellowship income that didn't receive a W2, so we were worried that we'd have to explain that. Called again. Operator (somehow it's Arthur like half the time) said that we should ignore the checklist and that our case was waiting for an appointment.

Those false checklists are unnerving, but it seems like it's actually complete.

How long did this delay your case? I was told by the NVC operator that they try to schedule interviews for multiple family members on the same date. Therefore, my husband won't receive his interview date until my stepson's case has been completed.

I can't say *iri*, if you're going to get checklisted for it or not.

This is what I can't understand either. When I was going through the guidelines of which I-864 form to fill out, I was under the impression that a US parent with a biological or adopted child as a petitioner must fill out an I-864W. I am petitioning for my stepson, which falls in neither category, so I went ahead of going through the trouble of filling out an I-864.

Is there someone who can shed some light into this? Is an I-864W really necessary for my case?

I already called the NVC. I initially called because I saw my husband had 3 N/A's on his case, so I wanted to follow up on my stepson's too. That is what they explained to me.

I guess I can call again to see if it is really necessary.
