We tried to get my wife's passport stamped when we were at uscis for biometrics. The guy out front at the window said they don't do stamps, but they would put a stucker on the back of her greencard. But they didn't, so we asked the guy at the window again and he said "oh, you have a 2 year green card with removal of conditions...for that all you use is the letter we sent you, that letter is all you need to re-enter the country".

See, we had just found out days before her bio appointment that her company was going to send her to mexico for a work-week. She flies home this Saturday, so I hope she doesn't have any issues getting back into the country.

As far as I know, the ASCs (place where you get biometrics done) do not give out stamps. For that you'd need an actual immigration officer, as they need to affix their badge number (or whatever that number is) to the stamp. Make an infopass appointment.

Passport stamping is the other services

When you go there you can ask them for the stamp

When I was there the officer asked us who need a stamp , or you can ask the officer at the window

I traveled a couple times with my extension letter and expired green card - I went through LAX, and had to show it before getting on a cruise ship at customs at a dock in Vancouver Canada. Latter felt like that would be the most tricky as it's just cruise ship and cargo ships they deal with day to day. I had no problems and they all told me "good luck on your interview." I really didn't want to get an infopass to stamp - I would be going through the Los Angeles immigration office which is very busy and an all day affair even with an appointment. When I went for my interview just to get into the building was a long wait.

My husband has entered the US 3 times with only the letter and never had any problems. Immigration officers seem to be very used to seeing the letter.

Please update our biometrics appointment was completed early on 6/11/15.

He was already going there for the UK visa application and asked to do these biometrics at the same time. At first they said no, but then they found the appointment letter in the system and let him do it. (We had not received the letter in the mail yet.)

I would make sure the airline is famiar with the letter. When we had trouble traveling with the AP/EAD combo card - the airline would not accept it and wouldn't issue him a boarding pass. They said he had to show an unexpired green card.

i know it's not the same thing, but I could see the same issue coming up if the airline isn't familiar with it. I would think most major airlines would know what it is- we were flying frontier airlines returning from cancun Mexico. I think Mexico is their only international flights so maybe they just aren't as knowledgeable.

My wife returned from her business trip in Mexico on Saturday. She said she had no problem at all getting into the US at Houston International (with expired GC and extension letter). BUT, when she flew from Mexico to Houston, the Mexican customs officials held my wife up for around 30 minutes while they "investigated" her paperwork. So she was a little nervous for a while. Thankfully she is back safe and sound, and hopefully this won't ever be an issue again because she will have the final green card

My greencard arrived in the mail on Saturday, Sept 26th! Done until I decide if I want to do citizenship. I hope the rest of you get your GC soon!
