I am totally the last person out of everyone. I've had two Senators call Detroit to ask ####### is going on and now I've written a letter to the Director of the Office.

I haven't got anywhere with Detroit.

I am wondering if hiring a lawyer can help. I guess it is too late now unless I withdraw this application and reapply based on the 5 year rule in 2017.

I don't think a lawyer would be of help in this situation. They have no more "juice" than you do to get this moving.

I see that you mention an Infopass. Have you tried one before now?

I know someone who knows an immigration lawyer and they said the only option I had was to write to the Director of the Field Office and ask for my application to be expedited as my son will be 18 years old in January. Nobody was prepared to tell me what would happen if he turns 18 before I get my interview and whether my application date would be grandfathered in for him so we wouldn't have to fork out another $700+ again. The 'rules' for expediting an application don't strictly apply to my situation although one was 'at USCIS' discretion' so I'm guessing he hinged recommendation that on this rule. Like kovacs said, hiring a lawyer won't help. Even my state senator couldn't get any information or assistance... they just refuse to disclose it to ANYONE. Which sucks. Royally.

Quick update on the traffic ticket my wife had got. it was her first offence and she completed the defensive driving course and had the disposition of the ticket the day before the ceremony. So no issues.

Finally, got the interview letter today. Interview on January 6th 2016.

Does anyone know if I need to take my son with me? He is going to naturalize with me but I assume the oath ceremony won't be on the same day.
