I had my interview today in the Jacksonville office and wanted to share my experience with those who are still looking to have theirs:

My appointment was set for 2.30pm and I walked into the USCIS building at 2pm. It was noticeably less crowded than when I had my biometrics done in late May. Nobody but two officers were in the biometrics section of the waiting area, and I could see 7-8 people in the main waiting area while I went thru security. After security, I walked up to the reception with my appointment letter and before reaching the desk, the receptionist was already saying my first name asking if it was me. I must have had a surprised look on my face thinking they "know my face", but the receptionist then told me I was the last one on his list for the day (which did surprise me too, given it was just 2pm). I was asked to sit down in the waiting area and told the officer would be informed I was there.

I waited for about 15 minutes with about 9 other people, which really seemed to be only 3 parties and their families/friends. After 15 minutes a faily young officer (maybe mid 30s) came into the waiting area, called my name, introduced himself and led me to his office. He was very soft spoken and seemed to speak slow and clear on purpose, not knowing my language skills yet. He also said I was his last applicant of the day as we walked down the hallway and arrived in his office. He then asked me to raise my hand, swear to tell the truth, and then to take a seat. I noticed he left his office door wide open, so I could hear other officers and they were probably able to hear us.

The first thing he asked for was my passport, my greencard and my appointment letter. I offered other documents, but he said he wouldn't need them right now. After checking my documents against his binder full of papers, he asked me about my full name, address, employment and date of birth. After each answer, he marked things off on what appeared to be the N400 form I sent in. Next, he checked my trips outside the US and I saw he had made a note below my last trip. He then said there may be a trip we may need to dive in deeper and asked if I remembered a trip I made in February 2010. I was first caught off guard but then said yes. He asked what that trip was about and I said I had received my graduate degree in Germany that month. He asked about the travel dates and since I couldn't perfectly remember the dates, he was about to start write in an estimated time when I told him the reason I didn't mention that trip was because the application only asked for trips during the last five years, and that trip falls outside of it. He thought for a second and then went on to say "You're right." and crossed out what notes he had written there. I assume he was thinking 2010/2015, sounds like 5 year span although technically it was over 5 years ago.

He then went on to ask all yes/no questions on the application and if I had done any military service in Germany, which I didn't. When he got to the Selective Service question, he didn't ask anything, and since I had not provided the proof other than my registration number and date, I was expecting him to ask for the letter (which was on the list of items to bring). He didn't ask anything, instead he looked something up in his computer and then marked that question off as well. Finally, he asked me if I understand the Oath of Allegiance and if I was willing to take it, then he made me print and sign my name on a couple papers at the end of the application.

The next step was to check my information on a piece of paper that would be used in the creation of the naturalization certificate, and I had to sign that, too.

He then asked uf I was ready for the testing part and said we'd start out with the reading. He had me read "Who was Abraham Lincoln?". Then I was asked to write "Abraham Lincoln was the President during the Civil War." Then he started to ask the civics/history questions while writing down my answers:

- When was the Declaration of Independence adopted?

- What do we call the first ten amendments?

- We elect a President for how many years?

- Name one of the two longest rivers

- Who is the Speaker of the House right now?

- Who lived in America before the Europeans arrived?

I got them all correct so he only asked those 6. Once done with that, he entered more info into his computer and I saw how he had checked the "Congratulations" box on the N-652 firm, which put a smile on my face before he was done. He then put a big "approved" stamp on the action block portion of page 1 from the N-400. He then said the magic words "Congratulations, I am recommending you for approval." and I thanked him for it. He then said my Oath Ceremony may not be until another 2-3 months out, since it would be held at the Tallahassee Federal Court House and they would have a bunch of other events happening there which means time slots for Naturalization Ceremonies are limited. If I didn't hear from the USCIS within 2 months, he said I should call the Customer Service hotline.

He then escorted me out and congratulateyme again, and I was outside by 3pm. That was it!

I am very excited, now it will be a waiting game until the Oath Ceremony is scheduled, so I am keeping my fingers crossed for a quick update.

Overall it was a very positive experience and although I was a little nervous, it was not as nerve wrecking as I had feared it would be. No mean questions were asked and nothing outside the past 5 years (which I was filing under) seemed to matter.

The only thing I noticed on my way home was that he didn't make me sign my pictures like others in this forum had to do, I am hoping this is nothing worth worrying about?

Good luck to everyone who is still having their interview, and I will report as soon as I hear about my Oath Ceremony date!

Just out of curiosity, how long out was the interview date from when you go the initial email saying it was scheduled? Just wondering how much more time I have for studying and if i'll get my oath by election time :)

I got the text notification on July 6, then the interview letter on July 10. The interview date was scheduled for August 13. Hope this helps!

I had my interview on July 24th and was recommended for approval, Online status undated to inline for Oath Ceremony on July 29th, I am wondering if anyone from Columbus who had their interview within the same time frame is still waiting to be scheduled. They had a Ceremony on August 6 with me :cry::cry: ,

Plus I heard that Columbus applicants usually take the oath within two weeks of approval. Am I being overly impatient?

This would vary from case to case. However, my "interview scheduled" notification was on June 22nd, and my interview was July 27th.

Then again, I think I might have one of the fastest processing times I've seen on this forum.

I sent my N400 out on May 2nd, and my Oath is Aug 20th. 3 months, 18 days total. Not bad for the Boston office.

Hello everyone,

I had my N400 interview today morning.

It was eventful before I got to the interview. On the way to the USCIS office we got a flat tire. Talk about timing. My wife who had accompanied me stayed with the car calling roadside assistance. I got taxi to pick me up and take me to the USCIS office.

I barely made it on time. Handed over the letter and the green card. They noted in their system and asked me to wait for the officer to call me.

Before I took a seat I was called in. The officer introduced himself. Very professional and nice guy. He took me inside to the interviewing area where they had all the office rooms. He told me he would be doing the interview and made me take the oath.

He first asked for my Green card, Drivers license and Passport. On his table there was a big bundle of all the documents that I have sent to USCIS.

Once we were seated, he gave me a preview of what steps he was going to do. As the first step he asked me the 6 civic questions which i answered correctly.

After that he asked me to read a sentence. Then write another sentence.

Then he said we will review the N400 application. He went through the application step by step asking me every question ensuring that all the information in the application was right. He didnt ask me any other documents.

After that he made me sign a couple of documents and the front of the photographs I had sent with the application

Once that was done, he said congratulations and that he was recommending me for approval. He said I will have to take the oath ceremony and the next available time slot of oath ceremony I could attend was on Thursday 08/20. I decided to take that day. He said I will have wait outside until my name is called to get the Oath ceremony letter. He then walked me out to the waiting area.

The whole thing lasted about 15 mins.

It took about 45 mins to get the letter. Its scheduled for 08/20/2015 AM.

Good luck to everyone
