I'm truly upset and confused. My husband and I have been told several times by both the Albanian embassy and Vienna that our case will not be affected by this new law because our I-130 was approved on July 5, 2006.

We hadn't heard from them in a while so my husband called the embassy yesterday to see what's going on (we turnerd in packet 3 in November). The ladt told him that it's true tha our case will not be affected, that our packet 4 will come soon, and the interview should be by April!

We were very happy yesterday with this news, but I really wanted to call today to confirm this info.

I called and it took one hour and a half (international rates) to get thru to a person! When I told the lady why I was calling she said, oh didn't you receive the letter about the new law? I told her that we had been told by both them and Vienna that our case would not be affetced. She so OH.... Then I said can you please check in the computer to see what's going on with our case.. she said I can't tell u anything. Then I said will my husband get his packet 4 soon? She said I can't tell u anything... I said, but my husband called yesterday and the lady told him our case is fine and we will receive packet 4 soon. She siad I don't know anything about that phone call. I said can u tell me what the computer says about our case, she said I can't tell you anything (like a freakin' robot)... then HUNG UP ON ME!

What do I do? How do we get answers? I hjave faxed, emailed, and finally called again and this is where we are....

Any suggestions?????

Thanks,

Amy

Try calling Department of State at 1-202-663-1225 they have access to all case information at all Consulates and Embassies and may be able to better explain your situation, also it is a domestic number.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

I will, but I have called them before and they didn't even know about this new law (like 2 or 3 weeks ago). Also, they said they can't check the status of a case that was filed over seas (is that not true)?

Thanks!

When I called the Embassy in Albania they were never able to give me accurate info because of the language issue. They are all native Albanian speakers and they may know how to speak English, but not very well. One time I called and they said there was a problem, but they could not tell me what. I was devastated, but when my fiance talked to them the problem was that the computers were down. I would have your husband call again and then believe what they tell him. Everything they ever told my fiance was accurate, but what they told me was always suspect.

Try to keep you chin up. I know how hard it is to be apart. Maybe you could take a leave of absense for a year from teaching. I know I debated about moving when we had our doubts, but I would hold out if possible for the American visa because of how limited your life possibilities will be if you relocate to Albania. He will never be able to come here to visit your family and that means any family trips home will be without him. You will never be able to travel anywhere without major issues.

So sorry for the confussion. Try and stay positive.
