Another license question..

Im going from Ontario to Indiana and I have held a G1 (permit) for some time now. I've practiced driving a lot but it's always been a bit of a phobia for me so I don't think I'll have enough time to get my G2 (let alone a G) before I move down to Indiana.

So, when I move, I know I need to get a permit again. Am I stuck with holding permit for a minimum of 180 days before I can even attempt the driving test?

I've read through the website, and I have a hard time understanding what it means exactly. I might just be overthinking it

New Residents

If you are a new Indiana resident who has a valid driver's license from another state you do not have to hold a learner's permit to obtain an Indiana driver's license.

and

If you have an out-of-country driver's license and intend to become a resident of Indiana or meet Indiana residency requirements, you must pass the vision screening test, written knowledge test, and driving skills test to obtain an Indiana driver's license.

All documents proving your identity, Social Security number, lawful status, and Indiana residency will be verified through a central verification process. The BMV will issue an interim license, valid for 30 days, authorizing the holder to drive pending authentication of documents submitted to BMV.

correct me if I'm wrong.. since I'm foreign and not from another state the first doesn't apply to me. But, I don't think "out-of-contry driver's license" includes an out of country learner's permit.. I can't really grasp the time period. Am I right in assuming I need to get a permit and hold it for 180 days before I can test? Is it any different for immigrants?

When you do go to the local BMV office, make sure you have the proper identification. You must bring your passport (proof of identity) and two documents that prove you are an Indiana resident (something with your name and your Indiana address on it).

By the way, welcome to Indiana! I lived there many years.
