Applying for AOS and Advance Parole

A couple of quick questions:

I am planning to include my Advance Parole application with my Adjustment of Status Application. Can I do this, or do I have to have "receipt" of AOS before I can submit my application for Advance Parole? I thought if I was submitting my AOS at the same time as the AP, that this would count as receipt since they'll have both documents in their hands. Any thoughts?

Also, a question about Advance Parole. I'm looking at the application and it appears that AP is granted "sparingly" in only emergency type situations. Is this true? I'm applying for AP so I can have a wedding reception in my home country. Since this isn't an emergency, will I probably be denied AP?

Thanks a lot!!

Kristy

Yes it is ok to file both together.... in fact most people file for AP at the same time as AOS.... In the 1 1/2 years that I have been on here I have never seen anyone denied a standard AP that they applied for along with AOS... I have seen a few denied emergency AP....
