We had our AOS interview this morning in Miami and all went well. We were a little nervous as we were unable to get the I-693a in time before the interview. All civil surgeons in our town would only transfer the information if we did a $300 medical exam that we did not need. We could get it done by the civil surgeon at the local public health facility for $25 but they were so busy they could not see us for over three weeks and we only received our appointment letter three weeks go. Fortunately my wife had all her vaccinations completed at her medical exam in Moscow which was reflected on her DS-3025. I had submitted this with the AOS package and had not received an RFE about it.

We arrived 15 minutes early but had to wait 30 minutes past our scheduled time. The officer called us in but did not swear us in or ask us any of the "no" questions others have mentioned. He looked over our papers and then asked "what documents did you bring?" to which I answered "hopefully everything you need". He started with the marriage certificate and then wanted to see our divorce documents including her translated version. I gave him copies of everything he asked for. He had some question about my wife's birth country (Kyrgyzstan) and acted like he didn't know if it were a city in Russia or a real country. He asked where it was and how many people were there. Then the conversation turned to languages and dogs (my wife is a good talker) and it was like talking to an old friend.

He also wanted some documents showing joint accounts and I offered our joint checking account statement and a copy of our credit cards showing her cards and my cards with the same account number. I had more but that was enough for him. Then he asked if we had pictures. I showed him pictures but he was most interested in pictures taken in Russia before she had her interview for the K-1 visa. That led him to talk about wanting to visit Russia with his wife. He copied a few of our old pictures and then told us my wife was approved. He seemed almost as happy as we were. He stamped her passport with the temporary I-551 and told her she was now a LPR and she would have her green card in two weeks but suggested we do not leave the country until she receives the card.

Just before we left I asked him if there would be any delays as I know some people wait for a long time for the FBI name check. He said he was glad I asked that and quickly checked and noted that it had been completed and nothing came up so we were good.

I did see the DS-3025 that I submitted in the file and he looked at it and the medical and confirmed that everything was in order. What a relief.

Tomorrow we are headed to Daytona to celebrate and prepare to watch NASCAR racing. She's a Juan Montoya fan!!! It's a European F-1 thing.

10 year GC Approved - APRIL 16th ,2009 - Peggy and Jonathan's......

Still waiting for our cards...Had to file I-90 as they sent them to the wrong address.

March 9th, 2010, Received GC that has been lost in the mail for 10 months. Still waiting for my son's that is lost as well.

Filed Waiver for my son's 10 year GC and it was approved. He finally received his GC after its been missing for 2 years.

Thanking God this is over for 10 years.

Congratulations!

We have our interview in Miami on March 13 and I am so glad to hear that the process isn't as hellish as I thought!

Our appointment is for 7:30am, so we're probably going to have to leave here at 6am to beat the traffic. I've never been down there- can you tell me where to park and whether you have to pay? Were there a lot of people there? Any other practical tips would be MOST appreciated!

He had some question about my wife's birth country (Kyrgyzstan) and acted like he didn't know if it were a city in Russia or a real country.

You would think USCIS officers are more educated than that. Kyrgyzstan is so NOT Russia - ethnically, culturally, politically and so on, that it makes me laugh that people would have such misconceptions :)
