I just looked it up.. Suicide is no longer a crime in any US state (the last of them removing it from the books in the late 1990s) - helping someone commit suicide is a felony most of the time.

I had to check if suicide was illegal or not in Minnesota. I don't think you can take anything for granted in a state that makes it legal to hunt cats.

Anyway, just to confirm, it's not illegal.

I was actually looking up the penalty at the time.. I was surprised it was legal.. It raises questions.. Like since suicide is legal if I am in jail and am in the process of hanging myself what right do the guards have to come in and stop me?

One other interesting thing: in the mid to late 1800's in England attempted suicide was subject to the death penalty.

Good point. Why should they be allowed to strap someone in a chair and tie them up?
