Hi All

Although I'm not scheduled for Montreal just yet, I'm getting everything all in order for the interview

I would like to know. Just what type folder am I allowed into the Consulate with? Will they let me take one of those enclosed accordion type filing organizers in? It looks like a small case when it's all closed up and only has the pockets for paper filing in it.

I do have a lot of stuff in a plastic filing folder now but it's not seperate pocket sleeves. The paper work is just stacked back to back

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks Allie

Yes Montreal will let you bring that in. They didn't even really inspect mine that I could remember (they were too busy frisking me hee hee). Mine was a plastic see through one. Worked like a charm, and I had all the tabs clearly labelled using the checklist as my guide. Worked like a charm, and I kept the file intact and originals inside, and am now using the same said folder for my AOS. :)

Okay thanks for the info. I'll get the type folder I was thinking on taking it'll organize really well

Good Luck

Accordion-style is definitely okay. It really doesn't matter what type of folder you use since they'll be putting it through an x-ray scan. I'd left my room keys in mine and they had to open my zipped folder to inspect the key :P

Yep, I used a plastic accordian folder, worked like a charm!! Ensure u have u r passport and interview letter at the front of it, as the security dudes will want to see it!. There were a few ahead of me in the line up to get into the consulate, BUT they had backpacks, so they were told to go find a place to store them. Guess there is a shop close by that will do that for a fee.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

They did not like my canvas tote bag, even though it was open at the top. They wanted me to "go back to the car and leave it there," but we'd come by cab from a hotel. Travel as light as possible! I wish I'd used the plastic grocery bags others recommended.

I used the plastic one as well (and yes, it was and is bulging at the seams) but I also saw a guy there with the harder style accordian files that you can buy at Staples etc. It's really only cardboard and plastic but does give you more space, I think. However, considering how nervous I was about taking paperclips, for goodness sake, I think if I had to do it over, I would still have opted for the plastic thingy instead of the sturdier cardboard thingy.

One more question related to that, i am too waiting for the date but everything is ready.

About copies for proof of ongoing relationship, I got a pile of copies of phones bills, credit card, bank account statement, airplane ticket, etc

Is it ok to staple those together since its the "proof of relationship" pile ? I heard they dont even ask for it but even if they do I can give it all to them, but I dont know about staples for that....

Thank you

Thats why I uesd an accordian folder, mine wasn't that big, had 13 pockets and I seperated different pieces of evidence in each. I knew from VJ that 99.9% they rarely look at evidence (at least for cr-1) but had time to kill

It's actually a health thing I believe. On PEI we have the Tax Office, and I remember hearing a news story about the problems with Carpel Tunnel (sp?) syndrome they were having because people staple their cheques to the payment stubs, not wanting the payments to be separated. They were saying how this repetitive motion of pulling staples can harm workers. I dunno.. I guess if you spent ALL day at it.. 8 hrs.. 5 days a week perhaps?
